Hans Beck (historian)
Hans Beck (born 22 April 1969 in Werneck) is a German and Canadian scholar in the field of Classical Studies. Career Hans Beck received his PhD in Ancient History from University of Erlangen–Nuremberg in 1996 with a thesis on (Polis and Koinon: Investigations in the History and Structure of Greek Federal States in the 4th Century BC). In 1997 he was hired to the position of Assistant Professor at Cologne University. In 2001-2002 he was a Junior Research Fellow in residence at the Center for Hellenic Studies in Washington DC. He achieved his Habilitation in Cologne in 2003 with a work entitled (Career and Hierarchy: The Roman Aristocracy and the Origins of the ''cursus honorum'' in the Middle Republic) and then moved on to Frankfurt University in 2004, where he held a Heisenberg Fellowship, awarded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft. Classical Studies
Classics or classical studies is the study of classical antiquity. In the Western world, classics traditionally refers to the study of Classical Greek and Roman literature and their related original languages, Ancient Greek and Latin. Classics also includes Greco-Roman philosophy, history, archaeology, anthropology, art, mythology and society as secondary subjects. In Western civilization, the study of the Greek and Roman classics was traditionally considered to be the foundation of the humanities, and has, therefore, traditionally been the cornerstone of a typical elite European education. Etymology The word ''classics'' is derived from the Latin adjective '' classicus'', meaning "belonging to the highest class of citizens." The word was originally used to describe the members of the Patricians, the highest class in ancient Rome. Federalism is a combined or compound mode of government that combines a general government (the central or "federal" government) with regional governments (Province, provincial, State (sub-national), state, Canton (administrative division), cantonal, territorial, or other sub-unit governments) in a single political system, dividing the powers between the two. Federalism in the modern era was first adopted in the unions of states during the Old Swiss Confederacy. Peter Scholz (Althistoriker)
Peter Scholz (born 31 October 1959) is a retired West German hurdler. He competed in 400 metres hurdles at the 1986 European Championships, being disqualified in the semi-final. In the 400 m hurdles he only won one silver medal at the West German championships, in 1986 behind the long-reigning Harald Schmid. He did however become West German champion in the 110 metres hurdles in 1984. He represented the club Eintracht Frankfurt. Uwe Walter
Uwe Walter (born 23 October 1962 in Rotenburg an der Fulda) is a German ancient historian. Walter studied history, Latin and Greek at Göttingen und Erlangen from 1983. In 1992 he received a doctorate from Göttingen with a work on citizen rights in Archaic Greece. He subsequently completed a teaching certificate and was employed until 1997 in the school system. In that year he was appointed as a senior instructor in the faculty of the department of ancient history at the Institute for Ancient World Studies at the University of Cologne.
