Hans-Joachim Plötz
Hans-Joachim "Hajo" Plötz (born 26 February 1944) is a former professional tennis player from Germany. Biography Plötz, known as "Hajo", competed on the professional tennis circuit in the late 1960s and 1970s. He made the West German Davis Cup squad during his career but never featured in a tie. He was one of only two Germans to make the fourth round of the 1967 Wimbledon Championships, with wins over John Pickens, Onny Parun and Giordano Maioli. The following year he won the 1968 German National Singles Championships. His opponent in the final, Hans-Jürgen Pohmann, partnered with Plötz at the 1969 French Open, to reach the fourth round of the men's doubles. He also made the fourth round of the doubles at the 1970 French Open, this time with another countryman, Ingo Buding. The Egyptian Open originally known as the Egyptian Championships also known as the Egyptian Open Championships or International Championships of Egypt is a defunct Grand Prix and Challenger affiliated tennis tournament played from 1975 to 1991. The Swiss Indoors is a professional men's tennis tournament played on indoor hard courts at the St. Jakobshalle in Basel, Switzerland. History The historical precursor event to this tournament was called the Swiss International Covered Courts that ran from 1920 to 1959, that was a fully open event for international players. To fill that gap this tournament was created in 1970 by Roger Brennwald and originally featured mainly Swiss top players. ''The Daytona Beach News-Journal'' is a Florida daily newspaper serving Volusia and Flagler Counties. It grew from the ''Halifax Journal'', which was started in 1883. Eddie Dibbs
Eddie Dibbs (born February 23, 1951) is a retired American tennis player also nicknamed "Fast Eddie". He attained a career-high singles ranking of world No. 5 in July 1978, winning 22 titles and being a runner-up another 20 times. Dibbs holds the record number of ATP Tour career match wins for a player who never reached a Grand Slam final. He did reach two semifinals, both at Roland Garros, losing to Guillermo Vilas in 1975 and to Adriano Panatta in 1976. His most significant victory was defeating Jimmy Connors, 1–6, 6–1, 7–5 in London on carpet. In 1976, only one other American player, Connors, had a better record than Dibbs. Guillermo Vilas (; born 17 August 1952) is an Argentine former professional tennis player. Vilas was the No. 1 of the Grand Prix seasons in 1974, 1975 and 1977, and won four Grand Slam tournaments, one year-end Masters, nine Grand Prix Super Series titles and a total of 62 ATP titles. Patrick Proisy (born 10 September 1949) is a French former professional tennis player best remembered for reaching the final of the French Open in 1972 (where he beat top seed and defending champion Jan Kodeš in the quarter-finals and fourth seed Manuel Orantes in the semi-finals before losing the final against sixth seeded Spaniard Andrés Gimeno in four sets). The Grand Prix tennis circuit was a professional tennis tour for male players that existed from 1970 to 1989. The Grand Prix and World Championship Tennis (WCT) were the two predecessors to the current tour for male players, the ATP Tour, with the Grand Prix being more prominent. Background Before the Open Era, popular professional tennis players, such as Suzanne Lenglen and Vincent Richards, were contracted to professional promoters. Amateur players were under the jurisdiction of their national (and international) federations. Later professional promoters, such as Bill Tilden and Jack Kramer, often convinced leading amateurs like Pancho Gonzales and Rod Laver to join their tours with promises of good prize money. Jacques Thamin
Jacques Thamin (born 23 May 1952) is a former professional tennis player from France. Biography Thamin was runner-up in the juniors event at the 1968 Wimbledon Championships, to Australian John Alexander. He also played in the men's singles draw, just days after his 16th birthday. During the 1970s he competed professionally on the tennis circuit. He made the quarter-finals of a Grand Prix tournament in Madrid in 1973, withs wins over Steve Faulk, Antonio Muñoz and Wanaro N'Godrella. In the quarter-final he won the first set against Ilie Năstase, before losing in three. He was runner-up at the Stuttgart Open in 1974, before the event was part of the Grand Prix circuit.
