Hans-Georg Aschenbach
Hans-Georg Aschenbach (born 20 October 1951) is a former East German ski jumper. In 1969 he became junior world champion, and two years later won his first national title. He won the FIS Ski Flying World Championships in 1973. In 1974 he won the Four Hills Tournament, and both ski jumping events at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun. Owing to these achievements he was named the East German sportspersonality of the year. He sat out most of 1975 due to a knee injury, but recovered by the 1976 Winter Olympics, where he took the gold medal in the individual normal hill event. Aschenbach retired right after the Olympics to work as a military and sports doctor. Brotterode
Brotterode () is a town and a former municipality next to the Rennsteig in the Thuringian Forest, in the Schmalkalden-Meiningen district, in Thuringia, central Germany. Since 1 December 2011, it is part of the town Brotterode-Trusetal. It is situated 11 km north of Schmalkalden, and 19 km southeast of Eisenach. History Brotterode was first mentioned in 1039 under the name of "Brunuwardesrot". In the Middle Ages (around 1360) it was the residence of a Vogt. In 1583 it became a possession of the Landgrave of Hesse. Before World War II, was part of the Prussian province of Hesse-Nassau. In 1895, the ''Great Fire of Brotterode'' almost completely destroyed the village. 729 out of 842 buildings were burned down, but the village was gradually rebuilt in the following years. In 1936 Brotterode obtained city rights. Today Brotterode is famous for tourism, winter sports, and hiking. German Sportspersonality Of The Year
The German Sportspersonality of the Year has been chosen annually since 1947, with separate awards made for men and women. The record holder is tennis player Steffi Graf, who won five awards. Swimmer Michael Groß, tennis player Boris Becker, and high jumper Ulrike Meyfarth each have four awards. Since 1957 the sport journalists also vote for Germany's Sportsteam of the Year.
