Hans-Dieter Pophal
Hans-Dieter Pophal (born 22 November 1937) is a retired German diver. He competed in the springboard at the 1960 and 1964 Summer Olympics and finished in eighth and fourth place, respectively. Pophal dominated the 3 m springboard event in the 1960s in Germany, winning all national titles in 1958 and 1960–1967; he also won a silver medal at the 1962 European Aquatics Championships. He returned to competitions in the 1990s, winning world titles in the 1 m and 3 m springboard in the masters category in 1994; he also finished second in the 10 m platform. The 1962 European Aquatics Championships were held in Leipzig, East Germany from 18 to 25 August 1962. Titles were contested in swimming, diving and water polo (men). Springboard
A springboard or diving board is used for diving and is a board that is itself a spring, i.e. a linear flex-spring, of the cantilever type. Springboards are commonly fixed by a hinge at one end (so they can be flipped up when not in use), and the other end usually hangs over a swimming pool, with a point midway between the hinge and the end resting on an adjustable fulcrum. Springboard materials Modern springboards are made out of a single-piece extrusion of aircraft-grade aluminum. The Maxiflex Model B, the board used in all major competitive diving events, is made out of such aluminum, and is heat treated for a yield strength of . Olga Jensch-Jordan
Olga Jensch-Jordan (née ''Jordan'', 13 March 1913 – 13 February 2000) was a German diver who specialized in the 3-meter springboard. In this event she won the European title in 1931 and 1934, and competed at the 1932 and 1936 Summer Olympics, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively. Her future husband, Dr. Arthur Jensch, was the vice Chef de Mission of Germany at the 1932 Olympics. During World War II he fought as an SS stormtrooper and was killed in action in 1945 near Berlin. After retiring from competitions, Jensch-Jordan became a renowned diving coach. In 1948 she co-founded the German Sports Federation and in 1951 the National Olympic Committee of East Germany.
