Hannuit
Hannut (; wa, Haneu; nl, Hannuit, ) is a city and municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Liège, Belgium. On January 1, 2006, Hannut had a total population of 14,291. The total area is 86.53 km² which gives a population density of 165 inhabitants per km². The municipality consists of the following districts: Abolens, Avernas-le-Bauduin, Avin, Bertrée, Blehen, Cras-Avernas, Crehen, Grand-Hallet, Hannut, Lens-Saint-Remy, Merdorp, Moxhe, Petit-Hallet, Poucet, Thisnes, Trognée, Villers-le-Peuplier, and Wansin. The Battle of Hannut, which began May 12, 1940, is credited with being the first battle between tanks of World War II. Arrondissement Of Waremme
The Arrondissement of Waremme (; ) is one of the four administrative arrondissements in the Walloon province of Liège, Belgium. Its size is and its population on 1 January 2015 was 78,851 people. The Arrondissement is only an administrative one. Judicially its communes depend on the Arrondissement of Liège except for Braives, Hannut, Lincent, Saint-Georges-sur-Meuse, and Wasseiges who depend on Huy. History The Waremme administrative district was created in 1821 by joining the cantons of Avennes and Landen (taken from Huy) and the canton of Waremme (taken from Liège). Landen Railway Station
Landen is a railway station in the town of Landen, Flemish Brabant, Belgium. The station opened on 2 April 1838 and is located on lines Belgian railway line 21, 21 and Belgian railway line 36, 36. The train services are operated by National Railway Company of Belgium (NMBS). Landen used to be located on Belgian railway line 127, 127 (to Statte) and Belgian railway line 147, 147 (to Tamines). On 19 February 2016 a train Runaway train, ran away from a platform at Landen railway station after the driver left the cabin to inspect the train's mechanics. The train started moving in the direction of Tienen railway station and was stopped 30 minutes and 12 km later by a driver who jumped in the train's cab. Battle Of Hannut
The Battle of Hannut was a Second World War battle fought during the Battle of Belgium which took place between 12 and 14 May 1940 at Hannut in Belgium. It was the largest tank battle in the campaign. It was also the largest clash of tanks in armoured warfare history at the time. The primary purpose of the Germans was to tie down the strongest elements of the French First Army and keep it away from the main German attack by Army Group A through the Ardennes, as laid down in the German operational plan ''Fall Gelb'' (Case Yellow), by ''General'' Erich von Manstein. The German breakout of the Ardennes was scheduled for 15 May, five days after the German attacks on the Netherlands and Belgium.
