The Liberty Korea Party () was a conservatism in South Korea, conservative List of political parties in South Korea, political party in South Korea that was described variously as right-wing, Right-wing populism, right-wing populist, or far-right. Until February 2017, it was known as the Saenuri Party (), and before that as the Hannara Party () from 1997 to 2012, both of which are still colloquially used to refer to the party. United Liberal Democrats
The United Liberal Democrats ( ko, 자유민주연합, Yayuminjuyeonhab, Liberal Democratic Union, ULD) was a right-wing conservative political party in South Korea, whose support mostly came from the North Chungcheong and South Chungcheong regions. The short Korean name is Jaminryeon ( ko, 자민련, , Liberal Union; ULD). The Party was in a government coalition with Kim Dae-jung's Democratic Party from 1998 to 2001. In the 2004 parliamentary election, it gained only 4 seats in the National Assembly, and its president Kim Jong-pil announced his retirement from politics after his bid for the 10th term in the National Assembly failed. Advancement Unification Party
Advancement Unification Party () or AUP formerly known as Liberty Forward Party was a conservative political party in South Korea. This party was created by Lee Hoi Chang, the presidential candidate who lost 2007 presidential elections. On 12 February 2008, the party merged with the People First Party, which got 18 seats in the 2008 Parliamentary election, making it the third-largest party in the National Assembly. The party was absorbed by Saenuri Party on 16 November 2012. Saenuri Party (2017)
Saenuri Party ( ko, 새누리당) is a conservative political party in South Korea, founded by supporters of Park Geun-hye. It opposed her impeachment. The foundation of the new Saenuri party began in February 2017 with the establishment of a committee and submission of party formation documents to the national voting commission. In early March it was announced the new party would be named 'Saenuri'. The Liberty Korea Party had been known under this name until February 2017, during the impeachment process against Park, when it was renamed. Regional branches were established days after the impeachment of Park on 10 March. The first, on 16 March, was in Daegu (the birthplace of Park Geun-hye), with 1500 members (own figures). The Democratic Party (; DP) was a political party of South Korea from 1995 to 1997. Formerly named United Democratic Party (; DP), it was renamed in 1996. History The party was formed by the merger of Democratic Party and New Party for Reform. Originally, Democratic Party won the local elections in 1995. However, shortly after, Kim Dae-jung (DJ), former Co-President of the party, officially returned to politics, and conflicts were sparked. The party's pro-DJ factions, not excluding DJ himself, left and founded a new party, named National Congress for New Politics (NCNP). Conservatism () in South Korea is chiefly associated with the People Power Party (South Korea). Traditional South Korean conservatism is a political and social philosophy characterized by Korean culture traditions originating from Confucianism. South Korean conservative parties largely believe in the following; a developmental state, pro-business, opposition to labor unions, strong national defense, anti-communism, pro-communitarianism, pro-US-KR relations and recently free trade and neoliberalism.
