Susannah Hannaford
Susannah Hannaford, ''née'' Elliott (25 December 1790 – 7 April 1861) was an early immigrant to South Australia. History Susannah and her husband William Hannaford (28 April 1797 – 1838) lived in Rattery, Devon and brought up a large family. After the death of her husband Susannah liquidated all their assets and boarded the ''Brightman'' to emigrate to South Australia, landing in December 1840. The children who made the journey were Richard (19), George (18), Elizabeth (12), Frederick (11), and John (6). Son William arrived in Sydney in 1844 with his wife Harriett nee Toms. Long before any port facilities, they were obliged to wade ashore, Richard carrying his mother on his shoulders. Hannaford is an American supermarket chain based in Scarborough, Maine. Founded in Portland, Maine, in 1883, Hannaford operates stores in New England and New York. The chain is now part of the Ahold Delhaize group based in the Netherlands, and is a sister company to formerly competing New England supermarket chain Stop & Shop. History Hannaford was founded in 1883 by Arthur Hannaford as a small produce store along the Portland, Maine waterfront. In 1915, its location was 164–168 Commercial Street, a site now occupied by a Gorham Savings Bank. He was joined in 1902 by his brothers, Howard and Edward, and they incorporated Hannaford Bros. Co. By 1920, the company became a leading produce wholesaler in northern New England. Hannaford then relocated to a new five-story warehouse on Cross Street. Ross Hannaford
Ross Andrew Hannaford (1 December 1950 – 8 March 2016) was an Australian musician, active in numerous local bands. He was often referred to by his nickname "Hanna". Widely regarded as one of the country's finest rock guitarists, he was best known for his long collaboration with singer-songwriter Ross Wilson, which began as teenagers, with The Pink Finks and forming the seminal early '70s Australian rock band Daddy Cool. Robert Lyall "Alfie" Hannaford , (born 9 November 1944) is an Australian realist artist notable for his drawings, paintings, portraits and sculptures. He is a great-great-great-grandson of Susannah Hannaford. Hannaford is a rural locality in the Western Downs Region, Queensland, Australia. In the Hannaford had a population of 118 people. Geography Hannaford is flat land used for agriculture. The Surat Developmental Road passes through the locality from east to west. History Hannaford railway station was named on 14 July 1924 by the Queensland Railways Department taking the name of the parish, which in turn was named after pastoralist Samuel Hannaford, who leased the North Inglestone pastoral run. Tsering Hannaford (born 19 March 1987) is a South Australian artist. Hannaford attended public schools and graduated from Farmer's College, Cincinnati, where he studied architecture. Hannaford opened an office in 1857 and in 1887 formed the firm of Samuel Hannaford & Sons. At the time of his death, he was director of the Ohio Mechanics' Institute. Alfred Hannaford (1890 – 25 August 1969) was a South Australian inventor and industrialist, remembered for his wheat pickling machines. History Alfred Hannaford was a son of John (17 February 1849 – 25 May 1909) and Elizabeth Hannaford, née Shearer (1852 – c. 6 November 1924), and lived at "Wattle Vale" farm near Riverton, South Australia; she moved to 57 Fourth Avenue St Peters, South Australia, St. Peters before 1924. Her family relationship with J. & D. Shearer, if any, has not yet been determined. He was educated at Riverton Public School then worked on the family farm. Some time before 1915 he developed a wheat pickling machine, which found considerable acceptance among practical farmers. The machine was capable of treating eight to twelve bags of wheat with Copper(II) sulfate, bluestone (copper sulphate) solution and separating smut (fungus), smut and other contamination from whole grain prior to planting. George William Hannaford
George William Hannaford (4 January 1852 – 7 November 1927) was a South Australian orchardist, pioneer of the apple export trade. History George William Hannaford was born in Hartley Valley, near Gumeracha, the third son of George Williams Hannaford. He was educated at Tungkillo along with his brothers and sisters, boarding in the town during the week and returning home for the weekends. At age fifteen he and his two elder brothers John (1849–1909) and Samuel (1850–1943) left to establish a farm at Riverton. In 1873 he purchased a property at Oyster Bay (now Stansbury). In 1875 he married, and they left Riverton for the Yorke Peninsula property, which they named "Hoowoodgee", and grew wheat, in rotation with lucerne or mustard. Esther Hannaford is an Australian singer and actor who has performed major roles in musical theatre in Australia. Her roles include Penny Pingleton in the original Australian cast of ''Hairspray'', for which she received a Helpmann Award, Ann Darrow in ''King Kong'', and Carole King in ''Beautiful''.
