Hank Locklin
Lawrence Hankins Locklin (February 15, 1918 – March 8, 2009) was an American country music singer and songwriter. He had 70 chart singles, including two number one hits on ''Billboard''s country chart. His biggest hits included " Send Me the Pillow You Dream On" and his signature " Please Help Me, I'm Falling". The latter also went to number eight on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 pop music chart. ''Billboard''s 100th anniversary issue listed it as the second most successful country single of the rock and roll era. It sold over one million copies, and was awarded a gold disc by the RIAA. Locklin was born and raised in Florida. He developed a fondness for country music following an accident in his childhood. He learned to play the guitar during his recovery and began performing locally as well. "The Same Sweet Girl" is a song written and originally recorded by American country singer–songwriter, Hank Locklin. It was released as a single via Four Star Records in 1949. The song became Locklin's first major hit as a recording artist, reaching the top ten of the ''Billboard'' country chart. Since its release, it has been reissued several times on compilation records. Background and content Locklin had composed "The Same Sweet Girl" after several years performing in the southeastern region of the United States. He had been gaining notoriety performing with his backing band titled "The Rocky Mountain Playboys." Locklin signed his first recording contract with his band under the Gold Star label. James Eldon Swan (November 18, 1912 – 29 October 1995) was an American country musician and later, a segregationist political candidate. Early life James Edgar Swan was born on November 18, 1912, in the Sand Hill area of Cullman County, Alabama. After his father left the family, Swan moved with his mother to Birmingham in 1922. At age 15, he won a talent show at an Alabama radio station. Ernest Dale Tubb (February 9, 1914 – September 6, 1984), nicknamed the Texas Troubadour, was an American singer and songwriter and one of the pioneers of country music. His biggest career hit song, "Walking the Floor Over You" (1941), marked the rise of the Honky-tonk#Music, honky-tonk style of music.
