Hank Baylis
Henry “Hank” Baylis (February 8, 1923 – December 17, 1980) was an American Negro league infielder in the 1940s and 1950s. A native of Kansas City, Missouri, Baylis broke into the Negro leagues in 1948 with the Chicago American Giants. He went on to play for the Birmingham Black Barons the following two seasons, and finished his Negro leagues career with his hometown Kansas City Monarchs from 1951 to 1955. In 1952 and 1953, Baylis was selected to play in the East–West All-Star Game. Baylis is credited with giving Mamie Johnson the nickname "Peanut" when he faced her in her first professional game for the Indianapolis Clowns in 1953; Baylis promptly struck out. In 1956 and 1957, Baylis played minor league baseball. Infielder
An infielder is a baseball player stationed at one of four defensive "infield" positions on the baseball field. Standard arrangement of positions In a game of baseball, two teams of nine players take turns playing offensive and defensive roles. Although there are many rules to baseball, in general the team playing offense tries to score runs by batting balls into the field that enable runners to make a complete circuit of the four bases. The team playing in the field tries to prevent runs by catching the ball before it hits the ground, by tagging runners with the ball while they are not touching a base, or by throwing the ball to first base before the batter who hit the ball can run from home plate to first base. The Yakima Bears were a minor league baseball team in the northwest United States, located in Yakima, Washington. The Bears competed at the Class A Short Season level as members of the Northwest League from 1990 to 2012. Following the 2012 season, the franchise relocated to Hillsboro, Oregon, and became Hillsboro Hops. The Indianapolis Clowns were a professional baseball team in the Negro American League. Tracing their origins back to the 1930s, the Clowns were the last of the Negro league teams to disband, continuing to play exhibition games into the 1980s. They began play as the independent Ethiopian Clowns, joined the Negro American League as the Cincinnati Clowns and, after a couple of years, relocated to Indianapolis. Hank Aaron was a Clown for a short period, and the Clowns were also one of the first professional baseball teams to hire a female player.
