Hangatiki Railway Station
Hangatiki railway station was a flag station on the North Island Main Trunk in New Zealand. In 1915 Hangatiki was described as a small township with a post and telegraph office, where passengers for "the famous Waitomo and Ruakuri caves alight". The guidebook said Waitomo was away, "by good metalled road, a conveyance meeting the express trains and conveying passengers to the excellent Government Accommodation House at Waitomo." The fare was 2/6 each way (about $18 in 2015 money). History Coates & Metcalfe were the contractors for the extension of this section of the NIMT, from Ōtorohanga to Te Kuiti. The station area had been levelled by May 1886. Until August 1887, the contractors provided goods trains. By October 1887 goods trains ran on Mondays and Fridays. The North Island Main Trunk (NIMT) is the main railway line in the North Island of New Zealand, connecting the capital city Wellington with the country's largest city, Auckland. Otorohanga railway station serves the town of Ōtorohanga, on the North Island Main Trunk in New Zealand. The current station dates from 1924. Te Kumi Railway Station
Te Kumi railway station was a station on the North Island Main Trunk in New Zealand. The railway had been delayed by Māori opposition to it entering King Country and Te Kumi was one of the last places where such resistance was shown. After being arrested at Parihaka in 1879, Ngāti Kinohaku were returned to Te Kumu, where they tried to establish a similar settlement. In March 1883, Charles Wilson Hursthouse was held at Te Kumi by Te Mahuki, whilst surveying for the railway. Te Mahuki posed for a photograph at Te Kumi in 1885, after serving a year of hard labour. Te Kumi railway station opened with the section from Ōtorohanga to Te Kuiti, for which Coates & Metcalfe were the contractors, having started work in 1886. In public transport, a request stop, flag stop, or whistle stop is a stop or station at which buses or trains, respectively, stop only on request; that is, only if there are passengers or freight to be picked up or dropped off. Passing Loop
A passing loop (UK usage) or passing siding (North America) (also called a crossing loop, crossing place, refuge loop or, colloquially, a hole) is a place on a single line railway or tramway, often located at or near a station, where trains or trams travelling in opposite directions can pass each other. Trains/trams going in the same direction can also overtake, provided that the signalling arrangement allows it. A passing loop is double-ended and connected to the main track at both ends, though a dead end siding known as a refuge siding, which is much less convenient, can be used.
