John Handy
John Richard Handy III (born February 3, 1933) is an American jazz musician most commonly associated with the alto saxophone. He also sings and plays the tenor and baritone saxophone, saxello, clarinet, and oboe. Biography Handy was born in Dallas, Texas, United States. He first came to prominence while working for Charles Mingus in the 1950s. In the 1960s, Handy led several groups, among them a quintet with Michael White, violin, Jerry Hahn, guitar, Don Thompson, bass, and Terry Clarke, drums. This group's performance at the 1965 Monterey Jazz Festival was recorded and released as an album; Handy received Grammy nominations for "Spanish Lady" (jazz performance) and "If Only We Knew" (jazz composition). Stephen G. Handy (born March 4, 1951) is an American politician who served as a member of the Utah House of Representatives for the 16th district. He assumed office on April 15, 2010. Early life and education Handy was born in Ogden, Utah. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a Master of Science in human resource management from the University of Utah. Ron Handy
Ronald Handy (born January 15, 1963) is a Canadian retired professional ice hockey player who played 14 games in the National Hockey League. Biography Handy was born in Toronto, Ontario. As a youth, he played in the 1976 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with the Toronto Shopsy's minor ice hockey team. Handy played with the New York Islanders and St. Louis Blues. Handy was more known for his lengthy and traveled career through the minor league circuits of hockey. His last stop as a player was as a member of the Arkansas Riverblades, which he became the head coach of after retiring as a player. Margaret Irving Handy (1889–1977) was an American pioneering medical doctor who was one of the first to specialize in pediatric medicine. In 1945, she established the first mothers' milk bank at Delaware Hospital (now Wilmington Hospital) in Wilmington, Delaware. She was born in Smyrna, Delaware, the daughter of L. Irving Handy, a U.S. Representative. She attended Goucher College and Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine from which she graduated in 1916. She was the first native-born female Delawarean to become a doctor and was also the state's first pediatrician. In 1918, during an outbreak of Spanish influenza in the Wilmington area, Handy was asked by the Board of Health to open a paediatric ward at People's Settlement staffed by volunteers and with very little equipment. Levin Corbin Handy (August 10, 1855 – March 26, 1932) was an American photographer who worked during the 19th and early 20th century. Civil War photographer Mathew Brady was Handy's uncle by marriage, and Handy was apprenticed to him at age twelve. After a few years of working in Brady's studio, he was a skilled camera operator. Later, Handy became an independent photographer in Washington, D.C. In the 1880s, he formed a partnership with Samuel C. Chester; following that, he and Chester worked as partners with Brady. Captain John Handy
Captain John Handy (June 24, 1900 – January 12, 1971), was an American jazz alto saxophonist, who was part of the New Orleans jazz revival. Career Handy was born in Pass Christian, Mississippi, United States. He played clarinet in New Orleans bands in the 1920s, and led the Louisiana Shakers. He switched to alto saxophone in 1928. During the 1960s, he played with Kid Sheik Cola and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and recorded for GHB, RCA, and Jazz Crusade. Handy was interviewed several times for the Hogan Jazz Archive at Tulane University, New Orleans, including December 4, 1958 by Richard Allen; December 15, 1958; and November 21, 1963.
