The qualification for the Handball at the 2016 Summer Olympics, 2016 Women's Olympic Handball Tournament was held from December 2014 to March 2016. Twelve teams qualified, the hosts, the World champion, four continental champions and six teams from the World Olympic qualification tournaments respectively. Handball At The 2016 Summer Olympics
The handball tournaments at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro was held from 6 to 21 August at the Future Arena in the Barra Olympic Park. The tournaments were won by Denmark in the men's competition and Russia for the women's tournament. The French teams for both competitions finished with the silver medal, and the bronze went to Germany and Norway, respectively. Format The handball event at the 2016 Summer Olympics was played between 6 and 21 August 2016 at the Future Arena in the Barra Olympic Park in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Games consisted of two tournaments, one each for men and women's teams. The events featured twelve teams, who qualified for the tournament from a series of preceding tournaments, as well as the host country Brazil. The draw for the championships took place on 29 April 2016, and split the teams into round robin groups of six. Ceres Arena
Ceres Arena (formerly NRGi Arena) is an indoor arena mainly used for handball matches and public events in Aarhus, Denmark. The arena was opened in 2001 and has a capacity of 5,001 spectators (4,394 seats). It is part of the Aarhus Sports Park, which also includes Aarhus Stadium. Ceres Arena is home to Danish Women's Handball League team Aarhus United and Danish Men's Handball League team Skanderborg Aarhus Håndbold. The arena functioned as the main venue in the 2002 European Women's Championships, hosting the final. Allison Marie Pineau (born 2 May 1989) is a French handballer for RK Krim and the France women's national handball team, French national team. Laura van der Heijden (born 27 June 1990) is a Dutch handball player for Chambray Touraine Handball in France and the Dutch national team. Laura van der Heijden started playing handball at the age of six, first at LHV Leusden in The Netherlands. She later played for Venus Nieuwegein and VOC Amsterdam, with whom she won the 2010 Dutch Championship and 2010 Dutch Cup. From 2006 to 2010 she also ran for the Dutch HandbalAcademie.
