Hanau-Wilhelmsbad Station
Hanau-Wilhelmsbad station is a former ''Fürstenbahnhof'' ("Prince's station") and a current halt ("Haltepunkt") on the Frankfurt Süd–Aschaffenburg railway in Hanau in the German state of Hesse. Function The station was built in the immediate vicinity of the former Wilhelmsbad spa (which its name refers to) and served the excursion traffic to it. Shortly after its opening, up to 16,000 people would arrive by train on public holidays with good weather. Today the station is used by many commuters due to its large parking area. Patronage at the station is low outside the peak hour. It has two outside platforms, which are connected only by the adjacent Burgallee level crossing. Hanau () is a town in the Main-Kinzig-Kreis, in Hesse, Germany. It is located 25 km east of Frankfurt, Frankfurt am Main and is part of the Frankfurt Rhine-Main, Frankfurt Rhine-Main Metropolitan Region. Rhine-Main S-Bahn
The Rhine-Main S-Bahn system is an integrated rapid transit and commuter train system for the Frankfurt/Rhine-Main region, which includes the cities Frankfurt am Main, Wiesbaden, Mainz, Offenbach am Main, Hanau and Darmstadt. The network comprises nine S-Bahn lines, eight of which currently travel through the cornerstone of the system, a tunnel (the "City Tunnel") through central Frankfurt. The first section of this tunnel was opened on May 28, 1978. Further tunnel sections were opened in 1983 and 1990, before its completion in 1992. The County of Hanau was a territory within the Holy Roman Empire, evolved out of the Lordship of Hanau in 1429. From 1456 to 1642 and from 1685 to 1712 it was divided into the County of Hanau-Münzenberg and the County of Hanau-Lichtenberg. After both lines became extinct the ''County of Hanau-Münzenberg'' was inherited by the Landgraviate of Hesse-Kassel, the ''County of Hanau-Lichtenberg'' by the Landgraviate of Hesse-Darmstadt in 1736.
