Hampstead And Highgate (UK Parliament Constituency)
Hampstead & Highgate was a parliamentary constituency covering the northern half of the London Borough of Camden which includes the village of Hampstead and part of that of Highgate. It was abolished in the 2010 general election; with the majority forming the new constituency of Hampstead and Kilburn; and part to the Holborn and St Pancras seat. The 2023 review of the Boundary Commissions proposes to re-establish the seat in its revised proposal. History Some areas here were amongst the wealthiest in the UK, but the seat always had an intellectual, artistic middle-class vote associated with the intelligentsia (see main page on Hampstead). It also contained Kilburn, with its large Irish community. The Labour incumbent in Hampstead and Highgate at the time of abolition, Glenda Jackson, retained the new constituency of Hampstead and Kilburn in 2010 with a majority of just 42. Hampstead (UK Parliament Constituency)
Hampstead was a borough constituency, centered on the Hampstead area of North London. It returned one Member of Parliament (MP) to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, who was elected using the first-past-the-post voting system. It was created for the 1885 general election, and abolished for the 1983 general election, when it was partly replaced by the new Hampstead and Highgate constituency. Boundaries 1885–1918: The parish of St John, Hampstead. The parliamentary borough of Hampstead was created by the Redistribution of Seats Act 1885, and consisted of the civil parish of St John, Hampstead, Middlesex. The parish had previously formed part of the Parliamentary County of Middlesex. Hampstead lay within the area of the Metropolitan Board of Works, and in 1889 this became the County of London. Glenda Jackson
Glenda May Jackson (born 9 May 1936) is an English actress and former Member of Parliament (MP). She has won the Academy Award for Best Actress twice: for her role as Gudrun Brangwen in the romantic drama ''Women in Love'' (1970); and again for her role as Vickie Allessio in the romantic comedy '' A Touch of Class'' (1973). Haverstock is a ward in the London Borough of Camden, in the United Kingdom. The ward has existed since the May 2002 local elections and covers most of the Haverstock and Chalk Farm areas. In 2018, the ward had an electorate of 9,115. The Boundary Commission projects the electorate to rise to 9,355 in 2025. History The ward has been represented by three Labour Party councillors since the 2014 election. Upon its creation for the 2002 election, the seat elected three Labour councillors. Frognal and Fitzjohns was a ward in the London Borough of Camden, the United Kingdom. The ward was created for the 2002 elections and covered the western areas of Hampstead, between Hampstead Village and Finchley Road and took its name from Frognal and Fitzjohn's Avenue. The population of this ward at the 2011 Census was 11,986. Frognal and Fitzjohns was represented by three councillors on Camden Borough Council.
