Hammersmith Bus Station
Hammersmith bus station is located adjacent to the District & Piccadilly and Circle and Hammersmith & City lines London Underground stations in Hammersmith. It is owned and maintained by Transport for London. The bus station is divided into two sections (lower and upper stations). The routes which serve the lower station, outside Hammersmith Broadway, are 33, 72 (towards Roehampton), 110, 209, 218, 419, 485 and N266. The routes which serve the upper station, above Hammersmith Broadway, are 9, 23, 27, 72 (towards East Acton), 190, 211, 220, 267, 283 (towards East Acton), 295, 306, H91, N9, N11 and N97. The upper station is also served by Berrys Coaches' Taunton to London services. History Butterwick bus station was replaced by Hammersmith bus station in 1993. Hammersmith
Hammersmith is a district of West London, England, southwest of Charing Cross. It is the administrative centre of the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, and identified in the London Plan as one of 35 major centres in Greater London. It is bordered by Shepherd's Bush to the north, Kensington to the east, Chiswick to the west, and Fulham to the south, with which it forms part of the north bank of the River Thames. The area is one of west London's main commercial and employment centres, and has for some decades been a major centre of London's Polish community. London Buses Route 211
London Buses route 211 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Hammersmith bus station and Waterloo station, it is operated by London United Busways. History Route 211 was introduced on 17 July 1993 replacing '' Red Arrow'' route 511 between Waterloo and Victoria stations, before continuing to Hammersmith bus station along the existing route 11, replacing the latter north of Fulham Broadway station. It was operated by London General until June 1998 when upon retendering passed to Travel London who introduced a fleet of Optare Excels. It was included in the sale of Travel London to Limebourne Buses in August 2000 and again to Connex in July 2001. East Acton
East Acton is an area in Acton in London, England, west of Charing Cross. It is partly in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham and partly in the London Borough of Ealing. It is served by East Acton Underground station, on the Central line in Travelcard Zone 2. Historically, East Acton and Acton developed as separate settlements and the nearby districts of North Acton, West Acton and South Acton were developed in the late nineteenth century. Since 3 July 2012, East Acton has been home to the cathedral of the Syriac Orthodox Church in the United Kingdom. London Buses Route 27
London Buses route 27 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Hammersmith Grove and Camden Town, it is operated by Abellio London. History Route 27 was introduced between Hounslow and Muswell Hill via current route 281 and Twickenham, Richmond, Kew and Turnham Green. At Camden Town, the route operated to Archway and Muswell Hill. The route was extended from Turnham Green to Hounslow in 1911. The route operated through World War II, when it was used by famous passengers including Peter Cushing to reach the Q Theatre near Kew Bridge. In the 1950s route 27 became the main route and route 27A was withdrawn from being the main route. In 1950, the route took part in trials to reassure the police that eight-foot buses presented no danger to other traffic. The route operated from Holloway garage at the time. London Buses route 23 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Westbourne Park station and Hammersmith, it is operated by RATP Dev Transit London. History Route 23 was introduced on 18 July 1992 between Westbourne Park station and Liverpool Street bus station from First CentreWest's Westbourne Park garage. On 14 November 2003, Alexander ALX400 bodied Dennis Trident 2s replaced the AEC Routemasters that had operated it since its inception. In January 2009, the route's peak frequency was reduced from twelve buses per hour to ten, as part of Transport for London's policy of reducing the number of buses using Oxford Street in order to reduce congestion and pollution by 10% in 2009 and a further 10% in 2010. The off-peak service already operated at this frequency. On 5 January 2009, a bus operating on the route crashed into a shop in Westbourne Grove after swerving to avoid a van, injuring ten people. London Buses Route 9
London Buses Route 9 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Hammersmith bus station and Aldwych, it is operated by London United. History Route 9 has been called "London's oldest existing bus route". Its origin goes as far back as 1851, although the routes 11 and 12 also date from this time. The Sunday 9 extension was finally removed when Route 23 gained a Sunday service in the late 1960s, although a token service was maintained as far as Aldgate until 14:00 on Sundays to serve the local markets, the afternoon service being curtailed at Aldwych. The Saturday service was also curtailed to Aldwych a few years later, but the Sunday service was renumbered 9A to avoid the unusual bifurcation, being further diverted via Monument and Tower Hill instead of Bank and Leadenhall Street.
