Hammersbach
Hammersbach is a municipality in the district of Main-Kinzig-Kreis, in Hesse, Germany. Location Hammersbach is located near Frankfurt am Main. Since 2007 Hammersbach has an official connection to the motorway A45 that has been planned for a long time. Prior to that, it was necessary to use the Raststätte Langen-Bergheim to get access the motorway. Constituent communities It consists of two villages: Marköbel and Langen-Bergheim. Main-Kinzig-Kreis
Main-Kinzig-Kreis is a Kreis (district) in the east of Hesse, Germany. Neighboring districts are Wetteraukreis, Vogelsbergkreis, Fulda, Bad Kissingen, Main-Spessart, Aschaffenburg, Offenbach and the district-free cities of Offenbach and Frankfurt. History The district was created in 1974 by merging the former districts of Hanau, Schlüchtern, Gelnhausen and the former urban district of Hanau. It is basically the former territory of the county of Hesse-Hanau. Geography The district is named after the two primary rivers: the Main flows along the south-west corner of the district. The Kinzig, a tributary of the Main, flows through the district. According to the ''Institut Géographique National'' from 1 January 2007 until July 2013 the geographic centre of the European Union was located on a wheat field outside of Gelnhausen. Limes Germanicus
The (Latin for ''Germanic frontier'') is the name given in modern times to a line of frontier () fortifications that bounded the ancient Roman provinces of Germania Inferior, Germania Superior and Raetia, dividing the Roman Empire and the unsubdued Germanic tribes from the years 83 to about 260 AD. The Limes used either a natural boundary such as a river or typically an earth bank and ditch with a wooden palisade and watchtowers at intervals. A system of linked forts was built behind the Limes. The path of the limes changed over time following advances and retreats due to pressure from external threats. At its height, the Limes Germanicus stretched from the North Sea outlet of the Rhine to near Regensburg ( Castra Regina) on the Danube.
