Hammarby Idrottsförening ("Hammarby Sports Club"), commonly known as Hammarby IF or simply Hammarby ( or, especially locally, ), is a Swedish sports club located in Stockholm, with a number of member organizations active in a variety of different sports. It was founded in 1889 as ''Hammarby Roddförening'' ("Hammarby Rowing Association"), but by 1897 the club had diversified and was participating in different sports, leading to the renaming to Hammarby IF. Hammarby sjö (Swedish: "Lake Hammarby") is a watercourse in central Stockholm, Sweden. Separating Stockholm City Centre from South Stockholm, or, more locally, Norra Hammarbyhamnen on eastern Södermalm from , it connects Saltsjön to Årstasjön. Covering a surface of 34 hectares and having an average depth of 4.5 metres (maximum 6 metres), Hammarby sjö is supplied by a drainage area covering 159 hectares and contains 1,600,000 cubic metres of water. Originally a lake about 3 metres deep, it was transformed into a canal when connected to Saltsjön in the 1920s and a 6 metres deep channel was dug between and Saltsjön and another to . Hammarby Sjöstad
Hammarby Sjöstad is a part of the inner city of Stockholm, currently undergoing major urban redevelopment. It is located on both sides of lake Hammarby Sjö, bordering Nacka Municipality to the east. The area is part of the districts Södermalm and Södra Hammarbyhamnen. Before the current redevelopment began, the area was known as Norra Hammarbyhamnen and Södra Hammarbyhamnen, a mainly industrial zone centered on the Lumafabriken works, a piece of functionalist architecture designed by Eskil Sundahl and Arthur von Schmalensee, which now houses a library and offices. The neighbouring Lugnet was a run-down light industrial area, not intended to be permanent, housing an impromptu trailer park. Linnaeus's Hammarby ( sv, Linnés Hammarby) is a historic house museum and mansion, and one of three botanical gardens belonging to Uppsala University, located in Sweden. It is situated about 10 km south-east of Uppsala. Carl Linnaeus The manor house Hammarby was the former summer home of Carl Linnaeus and his family. Carl Linnaeus was a scientist and professor at Uppsala University. In 1762 Linnaeus bought the small estate of Hammarby in order to spend his holidays in a quiet place. Buildings The main house of Linnaeus has two floors, an attic and a cellar under part of the house. The house is constructed of horizontal logs. Inside the house, the old wallpaper is distinguished, with flower design in dark red, gold and white. It was probably made c. 1880. There are two other buildings in the compound.
