Its county seat is Hayti, South Dakota, Hayti. The county was created in 1873 and organized in 1878. Hannibal Hamlin
Hannibal Hamlin (August 27, 1809 – July 4, 1891) was an American politician and diplomat who was the 15th vice president of the United States, serving from 1861 to 1865, during President Abraham Lincoln's first term. He was the first Republican Party (United States), Republican vice president. An attorney by background, Hamlin began his political career as a Democratic Party (United States), Democrat in the Maine House of Representatives before being elected twice to the United States House of Representatives, and then to the United States Senate. With his strong abolitionist views, he left the Democratic Party for the newly formed Republican Party in 1856. South Dakota Highway 28
South Dakota Highway 28 (SD 28) is a state highway in the east-central South Dakota, United States, that connects Hitchcock, Estelline, and Toronto. SD 28 was established between 1932 and 1935. It replaced SD 26. It was incrementally extended to its current path. Route description Spink County SD 28 begins at an intersection with U.S. Route 281 (387th Avenue) west of Hitchcock. This intersection, on the line of northwestern Beadle County and southwestern Spink County, is also the eastern terminus of County Road 2 (CR 2; 190th Street). SD 28 takes 190th Street to the east, along the county line. East of 390th Avenue, it enters the northern part of Hitchcock. Lake Norden, South Dakota
Lake Norden is a city in Hamlin County, South Dakota, United States. It is part of the Watertown, South Dakota Micropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 554 at the 2020 census. Lake Norden was laid out in 1908, and named after a lake near the town site. In May 2023, a fire destroyed the city's volunteer fire department. Attractions Lake Norden is the home of the South Dakota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame. The Agropur, Inc. plant in Lake Norden employs roughly as many people as the amount that live in the town. In 2019 the plant completed an addition that tripled daily cheese output to just under a million pounds a day.
