Hamilton Reach
Hamilton Reach is a reach of the Brisbane River in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Geography Hamilton Reach flows from west (upstream) to east (downstream). The suburb of Hamilton is on its northern bank (and is most likely the origin of the name of the reach). The suburbs of Bulimba and Morningside lie to the south. History The Hamilton Reach is popular for water sports. It is popular for recreational and competitive sailing. The Australian Rowing Championships were held at Hamilton Reach in 1904, 1909, and 1951. The Australian University Rowing Championships were held there in 1937, 1937 and 1955. Prior to World War II, flying boats used Hamilton Reach as their base. However, the level of river traffic and the lack of night lighting resulted in the flying boats relocating to Redland Bay. Cairncross Dockyard
The Cairncross Dockyard was a shipyard beside the Brisbane River at Morningside, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It included one of Australia's largest graving docks with an 8.5 metre deep water access, capable of taking Panamax vessels of up to 85,000 dwt, up to 263 metres long x 33.5 metres wide. It is second in size only to the Royal Australian Navy's Captain Cook Graving Dock in Sydney. Construction of the dockyard began in 1942, and its graving dock opened in 1944. Gateway Bridge
The Sir Leo Hielscher Bridges are a side-by-side pair of road bridges on the Gateway Motorway (M1), which skirts the eastern suburbs of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The western bridge carries traffic to the north and the eastern bridge carries traffic to the south. They are the most eastern crossing of the Brisbane River and the closest to Moreton Bay, crossing at the Quarries Reach and linking the suburbs of Eagle Farm and Murarrie.
