Hamilton Park (Waterbury, Connecticut)
Hamilton Park is the oldest city park in Waterbury, Connecticut. Founded in 1898 as a gift from the locally prominent Hamilton family, it offers both passive and active recreation, with ballfields and other amenities. It is located on southeast of downtown Waterbury, accessed via entrances on East Main Street. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996. Description and history Hamilton Park consists of 93 acres of rolling terrain, bounded on the north by East Main Street, the west by Silver Street Expressway and the Mad River the south by the river and Interstate 84, and the east by Idylwood Avenue, Plank Road, and a residential area. It is entered via a formal entrance at Hamilton Park Road and East Main Street, and a secondary entrance at Idylwood Avenue and East Main Street. Mad River (Connecticut)
The Mad River is a river that flows through northern New Haven County, Connecticut, in the United States. Course The river rises at the outlet of Cedar Lake just south of Bristol and courses roughly through Wolcott and Waterbury before emptying into the Naugatuck River. Watershed Lakes and ponds produced by impounding the Mad River behind dams offer deeper, cooler, larger habitat areas in which fish of numerous species are able to thrive. Scovill Reservoir, which occupies roughly along the river in central Wolcott, is known to support trout, largemouth bass, sunfish, yellow perch, chain pickerel and black crappie. As of 2013, the reservoir was designated a "Catfish Lake" and is stocked regularly with channel catfish. Waterbury is a city in the U.S. state of Connecticut on the Naugatuck River, southwest of Hartford and northeast of New York City. Waterbury Brass Mill
The Waterbury Brass Company was an industrial company located in Waterbury, Connecticut. Founded in 1846 by Israel Holmes, it was at its founding the largest maker of rolled brass in the country. The company was folded into the American Brass Company in 1899. Archaeological remains of its manufacturing facility, located in Waterbury's Hamilton Park, were investigated in 1975 and were listed on the National Register of Historic Places. History The Waterbury Brass Company was founded in 1846, by a group of businessmen led by Israel Holmes, a Waterbury industrialist who had previously engaged in other brass works.
