Hamilton Harris
Hamilton Harris (May 1, 1820 – December 14, 1900) was an American lawyer and politician from New York. Life Hamilton Harris was born in Preble, New York on May 1, 1820. He graduated from Union College in 1841. Then he studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1845, and practiced in Albany. He married Lucy Moody Rogers (1829–1898). He was a member of the New York State Assembly (Albany Co., 3rd D.) in 1851; and District Attorney of Albany County from 1854 to 1856. He was a member of the New York State Republican Committee from 1864 to 1870; and a member of the Board of Capitol Commissioners from 1865 to 1875. He was a member of the New York State Senate (13th D.) from 1876 to 1879, sitting in the 99th, 100th, 101st and 102nd New York State Legislatures. In 1885, he was elected a Regent of the University of the State of New York. Preble, New York
Preble is a town in Cortland County, New York, United States. The population was 1,393 at the 2010 census. The town is named after Commodore Edward Preble, a naval hero. Preble is on the northern border of Cortland County and is north of the city of Cortland. History Preble is within the former Central New York Military Tract. The land was first settled around 1796. The town of Preble was organized in 1808, the year Cortland County was formed, from the town of Tully (now in Onondaga County). Preble was one of the original towns of the county when it was formed. The town was reduced in size by the later formation of the town of Scott. In 1865, the town's population was 1,267. Menands, New York
Menands is a village in Albany County, New York, United States. The population was 3,990 at the 2010 census. The village is named after Louis Menand. The village lies inside the town of Colonie and borders the northern city line of Albany. History Menands would have been first spotted by Europeans ''circa'' 1609, when Henry Hudson dropped anchor somewhere near Cuyler or Pleasure Island during his voyage on the river later to be named after him. This would be the furthest north on the river that Hudson would go in the Half Moon. Today, those islands are connected to the mainland, and are the site of Interstate 787 exits 6 and 7, which includes the cloverleaf interchange with NY 378 and the Troy-Menands Bridge.
