Charles Hamilton (bishop)
Charles Hamilton (1834–1919) was a Canadian Anglican bishop who was the first Archbishop of Ottawa, Ontario and Metropolitan of Canada. Hamilton was educated at the High School of Montreal and University College, Oxford. He was a curate of Quebec cathedral and then incumbent of St Peter's Church in the same city. In 1884, he became the Bishop of Niagara. He was translated to become the Bishop of Ottawa in 1896 and was additionally elected as the Metropolitan of Canada in 1909 and then of Ontario in 1912. He died in 1919. Family Hamilton married Frances Louisa Hume Thomson, daughter of Tannatt Houston Thomson, Commissary-General of Canada, and his wife, Margaret Anne Ussher, the sister of Edgeworth Ussher. Charles Hadley Hamilton (August 5, 1850March 22, 1915) was an American lawyer, businessman, and Republican politician. He served as city attorney of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and represented downtown Milwaukee for one term in the Wisconsin State Assembly. He was the son of Union Army general Charles Smith Hamilton. Biography Charles Hadley Hamilton was born in Rochester, New York, in 1850. At age 2, his father moved the family to Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, where he was educated through the public schools. After high school, he joined a U.S. survey of Lake Superior and entered the University of Michigan in 1868, graduating as a mining engineer in 1869. Charles Smith Hamilton (November 16, 1822April 17, 1891) was a career United States Army officer who served with distinction during the Mexican–American War. Charles Mann Hamilton (January 23, 1874 – January 3, 1942) was an American politician from New York. Life Hamilton attended Ripley High School, the Fredonia Normal School (now the State University of New York at Fredonia), and the Pennsylvania Military College (now Widener University) in Chester, Pennsylvania. He was active in farming, and was also involved in the oil and natural gas business. A Republican, he was a member of the New York State Assembly (Chautauqua Co., 2nd D.) in 1907 and 1908. Charles Memorial Hamilton (November 1, 1840 – October 22, 1875) was a US Representative from Florida. Biography Born in Pine Creek Township, Clinton County, Pennsylvania, Hamilton attended public schools and was graduated from the Columbia Law School, Columbia, Pennsylvania. During the American Civil War, Hamilton entered the Union Army as a private in 1861 and served in Company A, Fifth Regiment, Pennsylvania Reserves. He was appointed judge-advocate of the general court-martial and general pass officer for the Army of the Potomac and also served on the staff of the Military Governor of Washington, D.C., until he was transferred to Marianna, Florida in 1865.
