Hamburger America (film)
''Hamburger America'' is a 2004 American documentary film directed by George Motz. The film highlights eight family-owned hamburger restaurants across various regions of the United States. Background and production Working as a commercial cameraman in 2001, George Motz had the idea to create ''Hamburger America'' while sitting with his wife Casey Benjamin, who co-produced the film; as Motz explained, "We were watching TV and saw a show about hot dogs, and I thought, 'Gee, I've never seen a really good documentary about hamburgers.'" Over the course of the next three years, Motz traveled across the United States to various hamburger restaurants, selecting them under the criteria that they must be family-owned, use fresh beef, be more than 40 years old, and offer a distinctive burger that has stayed the same over those years. George Motz
George Motz is an American television personality, historian, author and filmmaker. Motz directed a documentary film and has written books detailing the history of the hamburger in the United States. He hosted the Travel Channel show Burger Land from 2012 to 2013. He is a contributor for First We Feast with a series titled ''Burger Scholar Sessions''. Career Motz worked as a Director of Photography for WNET in New York. For his work he was a recipient of three Emmy Awards (one in 2000 and two in 2006). Motz taught a New York University course about hamburgers. In 2007, Motz founded ''The Food Film Festival'' based in New York City. The festival is held annually in New York City, Chicago, and Charleston. In 2011, the festival had 160 entries and curated them to 28. Bobcat Bite
Bobcat Bite is a restaurant that is located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, off of the Old Las Vegas Highway. The location itself has hosted two businesses, both of which have gone by the name "''Bobcat Bite''". The original Bobcat Bite specialized in the preparation of steak, chops, and hamburgers. Origins The historic building that housed Bobcat Bite was originally a trading post. It later became a gun shop, until Rene Clayton and her daughter, Mitzi Clayton/Panzer, converted it into a restaurant. The Bobcat Bite has been variously featured in newspapers, television, and other such media, and has been referred to by said media as "...the place to go for a green chili cheeseburger." Texas Longhorn
The Texas Longhorn is an American list of cattle breeds, breed of beef cattle, characterized by its long horns, which can span more than from tip to tip. It derives from cattle brought from the Iberian Peninsula to the Americas by Spanish conquistadores from the time of the Second Voyage of Columbus, Second Voyage of Christopher Columbus until about 1512. For hundreds of years the cattle lived a semi-feral existence on the rangelands; they have a higher tolerance of heat and drought than most European breeds. It can be of any color or mix of colors. Meers, Oklahoma
Meers is an unincorporated community located on State Highway 115 in Comanche County, Oklahoma, United States, in the foothills of the Wichita Mountains. Founded as a gold mining town in 1901, it was named for mine operator Andrew J. Meers. The only remaining structure of the original town is the Meers Store & Restaurant, which Food Network named as the best hamburger joint in Oklahoma and one of the best in the United States, largely due to its signature MeersBurger. The Meers Store also served as the area post office from March 12, 1902, until February, 1989. Currently, area residents have Lawton mailing addresses. Meers lies on the Meers Fault. Solly's Grille is a Glendale, Wisconsin diner thought to be the creator of the butter burger. History The Fieber family has owned the restaurant since 1936, and it is named after Glenn Fieber's stepfather Kenneth Salmon, known as Solly. When it opened, the restaurant was called Solly's Coffee Shop, but Glenn renamed it Solly's Grille in 1993 when he bought the restaurant from his mother. A steamed cheeseburger, also referred to as a steamer or cheeseburg, is a hamburger topped with cheese that is cooked via steaming and originally only served by restaurants in central Connecticut in the United States. Despite it now being available elsewhere, it is still difficult to find outside this area. Preparation What makes the steamed cheeseburger different from typical cheeseburgers is the way it is prepared. Instead of being fried in a pan or grilled on a grill, it is steamed in a stainless-steel cabinet containing trays that hold either a hamburger patty or a chunk of cheese. This method of cooking makes the fats in the meat melt away and they are then drained from the tray once the patty is fully cooked. The end result is a moist, juicy burger which is then served by scooping the meat onto a bun and then pouring the melted cheese over the meat.
