Hamburg Airport Station
Hamburg Airport (Flughafen) is a station on line S1 of the Hamburg S-Bahn, serving Hamburg's airport in the quarter of Fuhlsbüttel in the northeast of the city. It opened in 2008. According to S-Bahn Hamburg GmbH — owner and operator of the S-Bahn — about 13,500 passengers used the service per day in 2009, with an increase to 20,000 daily passengers by 2013. The station's name is identical in both English and German with the English word "airport" being used primarily in both languages and with the German equivalent "Flughafen" added in brackets. Ohlsdorf is a railway station in Hamburg, Germany, located at the junction of the Hamburg-Altona link line with the Alster Valley line and the Hamburg Airport line in Ohlsdorf, Hamburg near the Ohlsdorf Cemetery. History On 6 December 1906, the ''Hamburg-Altonaer Stadt- und Vorortbahn'' (City and suburban railway) — later abbreviated Hamburg S-Bahn — opened the double track Ohlsdorf–Blankenese line. Planned as an electric railway with overhead lines, the trains were first steam powered, because of difficulties concerning the construction of the electrical installations and a delay delivering the engines. Overhead lines were completed by , however, electric operation only started on 29 January 1908. Prior to 2008, Ohlsdorf had a bus shuttle service to bring passengers from the station to the airport. Hamburg Airport S-Bahn Line
The Hamburg Airport S-Bahn line is a nearly three-kilometre long railway line used by the Hamburg S-Bahn. It was opened on 11 December 2008. Route The Airport S-Bahn line connects Hamburg-Fuhlsbüttel Airport via Ohlsdorf station with central Hamburg. The line, with the exception of a short section to the north of Ohlsdorf, is entirely underground. The tunnel ramp is located directly in front of Klein Borstel station on U-Bahn line U1. The tunnel is built at a depth of up to 30 metres below the surface due to geological conditions. It passes under the Alster river and the large residential area of Fuhlsbüttel. Operations The route is served by S-Bahn line S1. Trains coming from the city are partitioned at the Ohlsdorf station.
