Hamarøyskaftet is a mountain in Hamarøy Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The mountain is a characteristic landmark of the region. It is located about west of the villages of Oppeid and Presteid and about north of the village of Skutvika. Skutvika or Skutvik is a small village in the municipality of Hamarøy in Nordland county, Norway. The village is situated at the southwestern extreme of the Hamarøya peninsula, about north of the Bodø (town), town of Bodø, southwest of the Narvik (town), town of Narvik, and south of the town of Svolvær. To the west and south of Skutvik is the Økssundet, a Sound (geography), sound connecting the Sagfjorden (Nordland), Sagfjorden and Vestfjorden. Hamarøy ( smj, Hábmer) is a municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is part of the traditional district of Salten. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Oppeid. Other villages include Drag, Innhavet, Karlsøy, Korsnes, Presteid, Skutvika, Tømmerneset, Tranøy, and Ulvsvåg. The municipality is the 36th largest by area out of the 356 municipalities in Norway. Martin Hoff Ekroll
Martin Hoff Ekroll (16 February 1865–15 May 1916) was a Norwegian merchant, mountaineer and Arctic explorer. He was born in the village of Skroven in the islands of Lofoten in Nordland, Norway. He operated a fishing station at Kabelvåg on the island of Austvågøya. In 1891 he published a plan for an expedition to the North Pole (in german: Plan für eine Schlittenboot-Expedition nach dem Nordpol). He funded and organized an expedition to the island of Edgeøya, located in the Svalbard archipelago 1894–1895. At Edgeøya, the bay of Ekrollhamna and the headland of Martinodden are both named after him. He made a first ascent of the mountain of Vågakallen on the island of Austvågøy about 1885. Oppeid or Oppeide is the administrative centre of Hamarøy Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The village is located about southwest of the town of Narvik. It is located right next to the village of Presteid on a small isthmus of land between the Kaldvågfjorden and the Presteidfjorden. Presteid
Presteid is a village in the municipality of Hamarøy in Nordland county, Norway. It is located immediately east of the village of Oppeid, along the Presteidfjorden. Presteid is part of the Oppeid urban area which has a population (2018) of 551. The village is the location of Hamarøy Church, the main church for the municipality. The famous Norwegian author Knut Hamsun lived in this village from the age of 9 until 14. He often wrote about Presteid in his works.
