Hamar Men's Basketball
The Hamar men's basketball team, commonly known as Hamar, is the men's basketball department of Íþróttafélagið Hamar. It was founded on 10 September 1992. History Hamar first fielded a men's team during the 1993–1994 season when it participated in 2. deild karla. After three seasons in the 2. deild, Hamar won the league in 1997 and was promoted to 1. deild karla. During its first season in 1. deild, the team finished 5th in the league. During the summer, Hamar hired former Icelandic international player Pétur Ingvarsson as its player-coach. Behind his and star player Oleg Krijanovskij play, Hamar finished fourth in the league and made it to the playoffs. In the semi-finals, Hamar defeated Þór Þorlákshöfn 2-1 and advanced to the finals where it faced former Úrvalsdeild powerhouse Íþróttafélag Reykjavíkur. Hveragerði
Hveragerði (, "hot-spring yard") is a town and municipality in the south of Iceland, 45 km east of Reykjavík on Iceland's main ringroad, Route 1 (Iceland), Route 1. The river Varmá runs through the town. Overview The surrounding area is part of the Hengill central volcano, and is Geothermal (geology), geothermally active and experiences very frequent (usually minor) earthquakes. The town is known for its greenhouses, which are heated by hot water from volcanic hot springs. The first greenhouse was built in 1923. These springs are the site of occurrence of certain extremophile micro-organisms, that are capable of surviving in extremely hot environments. David Aliu
David Aliu (born 13 March 1981) is a British retired professional basketball player. He last played for Cheshire Phoenix in the British Basketball League. Aliu was part of the Mersey Tigers' treble-winning 2010/11 team, and in November 2011, became the Tigers' record points scorer in the BBL. Early life and career Born in Liverpool, England, Aliu started playing basketball at the age of 14 in his home town of Liverpool, playing for local side Toxteth Tigers. Ágúst Sigurður Björgvinsson (born 16 January 1979) is an Icelandic professional basketball coach who last coached Úrvalsdeild karla (basketball), Úrvalsdeild karla club Valur men's basketball, Valur. He was the head coach of the Iceland women's national basketball team, Icelandic women's national basketball team from 2007 to 2009 and won back-to-back national championships with Haukar women's basketball, Haukar women's team in 2006 and 2007. Ragnar Nathanaelsson
Ragnar Ágúst Nathanaelsson (born 27 August 1991) is an Icelandic basketball player who plays for Hamar of the Icelandic 1. deild karla. He participated at EuroBasket 2015 as a member of the Icelandic national team. He is a two time Úrvalsdeild Domestic All-First team selection and won the Icelandic Basketball Cup in 2022. Marvin Valdimarsson
Marvin Valdimarsson (born 11 August 1981) is an Icelandic former basketball player. At the peak of his career, he was known as a high-scoring forward, leading the 1. deild karla in scoring in 2009, when he was also named as the Player of the Year, and coming in second in scoring in the Úrvalsdeild karla in 2010. Lárus Jónsson (born 28 November 1978) is an Icelandic basketball coach and former player. He is currently the head coach of Þór Þorlákshöfn. As a player, he played several seasons in the Icelandic top-tier Úrvalsdeild karla and was a member of the Icelandic national team. In 2021 he led Þór Þorlákshöfn to its first ever national championship. Keith Christophe Vassell (born 28 July 1971) is a Canadian-Icelandic basketball coach and a former member of the Canadian national basketball team. He played seven seasons in the Icelandic Úrvalsdeild karla, winning the national championship in 2000 with KR and the Icelandic Cup in 2007 with Íþróttafélag Reykjavíkur. Everage Lee Richardson (born December 23, 1985) is an American-Icelandic basketball player for the Úrvalsdeild karla club Breiðablik.
