Hama bar Hanina was a rabbi who lived in the Land of Israel in the 3rd century (second generation of amoraim). Biography Like his father, Hanina bar Hama, he directed a school at Sepphoris, and was well known in the circles of the halakhists. He was a contemporary of Rabbi Yochanan. Who his teachers were is nowhere stated. Possibly R. ''Amoraim'' (Aramaic language, Aramaic: plural or , singular ''Amora'' or ''Amoray''; "those who say" or "those who speak over the people", or "spokesmen") refers to Jewish scholars of the period from about 200 to 500 Common Era, CE, who "said" or "told over" the teachings of the Oral Torah. Hanina bar Hama (died c. 250) ( he, חנינא בר חמא) was a Jewish Talmudist, halakhist and aggadist frequently quoted in the Babylonian and the Jerusalem Talmud, and in the Midrashim. He is generally cited by the name R. Hanina, but sometimes with his patronymic (Hanina b. Hama), and occasionally with the cognomen "the Great". Hoshaiah II
Hoshaiah or Oshaya (Also spelled: Oshaia; , ; died ca. 350 CE) was a Jewish Amoraim, amora of the 3rd and 4th amoraic generations. Biography It is supposed that his colleague Hanina was his brother. They were lineal descendants from Eli the priest, which circumstance they assigned as reason for Yochanan bar Nafcha, Johanan's failure to ordain them. For a living they plied the shoemaker's trade. Furthermore, the Talmud refers once to Hoshaiah and Hanina as rabbis (with the generic term ''Rav''), when dealing with the laws differentiating magic as Magic (illusion), illusion and as Magic (paranormal), wizardry. Hoshaiah and his colleague stand out as producing magic while studying Sefer Yetzirah, which is there considered neither illusion (''aḥizat eynayim'', literally "catching of the eyes") nor sorcery. ''Pesikta Rabbati'' (Hebrew: פסיקתא רבתי ''P'siqta Rabbita'', "The Larger P'siqta") is a collection of aggadic midrash (homilies) on the Pentateuchal and prophetic readings, the special Sabbaths, and so on. It was composed around 845 CE and probably called "rabbati" (the larger) to distinguish it from the earlier Pesikta de-Rav Kahana (PdRK).
