Halton (electoral District)
Halton was a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada, represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1867 to 1988 before being abolished in an electoral district redistribution, and again from 1997 to 2015, when it was again abolished in another electoral district redistribution. When it was last contested in 2011, its population was 203,437, of whom 115,255 were eligible electors. Electoral district 1867–1966 Halton riding was created by the British North America Act, 1867, and defined as Halton County. 1966–1976 In 1966, the riding was redefined to consist of the Towns of Milton and Oakville and the Township of Esquesing in the County of Halton, and the Township of Erin in the County of Wellington. 1976–1987 In 1976, it was redefined to consist of the Towns of Milton and Oakville, and the southern part of the Town of Halton Hills. Mississauga—Erin Mills is a federal electoral district in Ontario. It encompasses a portion of Ontario formerly included in the electoral district of Mississauga—Erindale. Mississauga—Erin Mills was created by the 2012 federal electoral boundaries redistribution and was legally defined in the 2013 representation order. Charles Alexander Best (July 7, 1931 in Toronto, Ontario – March 25, 1978) was a Canadian politician, farmer, nurseryman and scientist. Rutherford Lester Whiting
Rutherford "Rud" Lester Whiting (July 30, 1930 – February 13, 2014) was a Canadian politician, who was the Liberal Member of Parliament for the riding of Halton from 1968 until 1972. Political career When Harry Harley, Halton's incumbent MP, decided not to stand for reelection in the 1968 general election, Whiting (who was already on the riding party executive) decided to contest the party nomination, and eventually won by two votes over Oakville Mayor MacLean Anderson on the fourth ballot. He became MP in the subsequent election. He was defeated by Terry O'Connor of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada in the 1972 general election. In 1985, Whiting attempted to reenter politics at the local level by campaigning for a Regional Councillor seat for Ward 4 in Halton Hills, but was defeated by the incumbent Marilyn Sarjeantson. Terry O'Connor (Canadian Politician)
Terrance Patrick O'Connor, QC (born March 24, 1940) is a former politician in Ontario, Canada. He served in the House of Commons of Canada from 1972 to 1974, and in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1985 to 1987. O'Connor was a member of the Progressive Conservative Party. From 1993 to 2015 he was a judge of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. Frank Arthur Philbrook (9 November 1931 30 October 2017) was a Liberal party member of the House of Commons of Canada. He graduated from the University of Toronto as MD in 1958, and was a member of the College of Family Physicians of Canada. He retired from medical practice in 1993. Philbrook was born in Toronto, Ontario. Before entering politics, he spent two years at a mission hospital in Kashmir and then four years as Medical Officer on a World Bank project in Pakistan. Kevin Daniel Flynn (born ) is a former politician in Ontario, Canada. He was a Liberal member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 2003 to 2018 who represented the riding of Oakville. Otto Jelinek
Otto John Jelinek (Czech: Otakar Jelínek; born May 20, 1940) is a businessman, former figure skater, and Canadian politician. Jelinek's family fled to Switzerland, then to Canada from Czechoslovakia in 1948, following the Communist coup d'état when communists nationalized his father's cork and aluminium caps factory. Jelinek was appointed as ambassador of Canada to the Czech Republic in August 2013. Figure skating career * J = Junior level Jelinek competed as a pair skater with his sister, Maria.
