Haljala
Haljala is a small borough ( et, alevik) in Lääne-Viru County, in northern Estonia. It's located about 10 km northwest of the town of Rakvere, by the Tallinn–Narva (Tallinn–Saint Petersburg) road (part of E20). Haljala is the administrative centre of Haljala Parish. As of 2011 Census, the settlement's population was 1,084. Haljala was first mentioned in 1241. One of the main sights in Haljala is Haljala church. It was initially built on an important crossing of Tallinn–Narva road with a road from Rakvere to the northern coast, particularly to the Toolse harbour. The first church was wooden and was built in the 13th century. The present stone church was built in the end of 14th century. Toolse
Toolse is a village in Haljala Parish, Lääne-Viru County, in northeastern Estonia. Toolse Castle Toolse castle (german: Tolsburg) was a crusader castle belonging to the Teutonic Order. It was completed in 1471. At one point of time, it was reportedly the northernmost outpost of the Holy Roman Empire. Today only ruins remain. Kadri Voorand (born 18 November 1986, in Haljala) is an Estonian singer and composer. She has been the leader or a member of several musical groups, including Kadri Voorand Quartet and Estonian Voices. Rain Veideman
Rain Veideman (born 1 October 1991) is an Estonian professional basketball player for BC Tallinna Kalev of the Korvpalli Meistriliiga. He also represents the Estonian national basketball team internationally. Standing at a height of 1.92 m (6 ft 4 in), he primarily plays the shooting guard position. Professional career Veideman began playing basketball with sPORTKUNDA/Rakvere. He began his professional career in 2008, at the age of 17, with Kuremaa of the Korvpalli Meistriliiga. Gerli Padar (born 6 November 1979) is an Estonian singer and actress. She represented Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2007. She is the sister of Tanel Padar, who won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2001 for Estonia. European Route E20
European route E20 is a part of the United Nations International E-road network. It runs roughly west–east through Ireland, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Sweden, Estonia, and Russia. Its length is but it is not continuous; at three points, a sea crossing is required. Roll-on/roll-off ferries make the crossings from Dublin to Liverpool and from Stockholm to Tallinn. No publicly accessible ferries traverse the North Sea from Kingston-upon-Hull to Esbjerg (as of 2019), but a ferry for commercial drivers leaves Immingham for Esbjerg on most days. Lääne-Viru County ( et, Lääne-Viru maakond or ''Lääne-Virumaa'') is one of 15 counties of Estonia. It is in northern Estonia, on the south coast of the Gulf of Finland. Peeter Tooming (1 June 1939 Rakvere – 17 May 1997 Tallinn) was an Estonian photographer, photojournalist, documentary film director and journalist.
