Half Iced
Half Iced (14 March 1979 – 2001) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse who raced on turf and was best known for winning the 1982 Japan Cup. After being beaten in his two starts as a juvenile in 1981 he was highly tried in the next two seasons racing sixteen times in 1982 and thirteen times in 1983. As a three-year-old he won three minor races before recording his first major victory in the Grade II Secretariat Stakes. He ended his season by beating a top-class international field in the Japan Cup at Tokyo Racecourse. In the following year he won the Grade III Seneca Handicap at Saratoga Race Course and ended his racing career by finishing a close fourth in his second Japan Cup. He was retired to stud in New Zealand and had some success as a breeding stallion. He died in 2001 at the age of twelve. Olden Times
Olden Times (1958–1985) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse. Background Olden Times was conceived in France and bred in California and was raced by Rex Ellsworth, who also bred and raced U.S. Racing Hall of Fame inductee Swaps. He was conditioned for racing by Hall of Fame trainer Mesh Tenney from a base in California. Ridden by Hank Moreno, Racing career Olden Times won top races on both dirt and grass at racetracks across the United States from 1960 through 1964 at distances from five eighths of a mile to a mile and three quarters. He was sired by Relic, an American multiple stakes race winner who became the leading broodmare sire in France in 1965. Olden Times' dam was Djenne, a daughter of 1942 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner and five-time Leading sire in France Djebel. The Canadian International Stakes is a Grade I stakes race for thoroughbred racehorses three years of age and up on Turf. It is held annually in October at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Woodbine Racetrack is a race track for Thoroughbred horse racing in the Etobicoke area of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The Man o' War Stakes is a Grade I American thoroughbred horse race for horses aged four-years-old and older. It is run over a distance of one and three-eighth miles on turf and is scheduled annually for early May at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. The current purse is $700,000. Super Derby
The Super Derby is an American thoroughbred horse race held annually in September at Louisiana Downs in Bossier City, Louisiana. Inaugurated in 1980, the Super Derby is open to three-year-olds and the distance is miles on the dirt. Currently a Grade III event, it is the richest race held at Louisiana Downs. In its history, the Super Derby has attracted some of the top horses in the country including winners of all three American Classic Races. The Super Derby was a Grade I race from 1983 to 2001. In 2002, it was downgraded to Grade II and in 2016, it was downgraded again to Grade III. It was originally run at the American classic distance of miles, but in 2002 the distance was reduced to miles (the exception being 2005 when the distance reverted to miles). Don MacBeth
Donald MacBeth (August 29, 1949 – March 1, 1987) was a Canadian Hall of Fame jockey in North American Thoroughbred racing. Born in Red Deer, Alberta, Macbeth rode horses at Alberta racetracks before going to race in the United States. Among horses of note, he rode Deputy Minister, winner of the 1981 Sovereign and Eclipse awards for Outstanding Two-Year-Old Male Horse in Canada and the United States. In Japan, MacBeth rode Half Iced to victory in the 1982 Japan Cup and Chief's Crown to a win in the 1984 Breeders' Cup Juvenile, the 1985 Blue Grass Stakes, and the 1985 Marlboro Cup. He also won the prestigious Washington, D.C. International in 1985 aboard Vanlandingham for trainer Shug McGaughey. Arlington Park
Arlington International Racecourse (formerly Arlington Park, the name was Arlington Park Jockey Club from as soon as 1948 up to 1955) was a horse race track in the Chicago suburb of Arlington Heights, Illinois. Horse racing in the Chicago region had been a popular sport since the early days of the city in the 1830s, and at one time Chicago had more horse racing tracks (six) than any other major metropolitan area.
