''Half a Sixpence'' (also ''Kipps - The New Half A Sixpence Musical'') is a stage musical based on the 1905 novel ''Kipps'' by H. G. Wells and the original 1963 musical, with music by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe, and lyrics by Anthony Drewe and Heneker, featuring several of the original songs by Heneker, and book by Julian Fellowes. Background The original musical of ''Half a Sixpence'', based on the novel ''Kipps'' by H. G. Wells, featured music and lyrics by David Heneker and book by Beverley Cross. The musical was written as a star vehicle for British pop star Tommy Steele who performed the role of Kipps originally in London in 1963, Broadway in 1965 and in the 1967 film adaptation. It was evident that the show relied on Steele as the star vehicle as he featured in twelve of the musical's fifteen songs. George Stiles (composer)
George William Stiles (born 9 August 1961) is an English composer of musicals for the stage. Education From 1974 to 1979, he was educated at Gresham's School in Norfolk. Stiles studied music at Exeter University, where he met his writing partner Anthony Drewe. He graduated in 1983. Collaboration with Anthony Drewe For more than 30 years, Stiles has worked with the lyricist Anthony Drewe. Together they have written eleven shows (see below). Projects currently in development include: ''Soap Dish''; an adaptation of Graham Greene's ''Travels with My Aunt''; and a new project with the director and choreographer Jerry Mitchell. Tutankhamun ''Tutankhamun'' was first performed at the Northcott Theatre and Imagination Buildings in 1984. Bryan Dick (born 1 February 1978Birthdayday (from Twitter)) is an English TV, stage and film actor. He is perhaps best known for playing Ernie Wise in the BBC's BAFTA-winning biopic of Morecambe and Wise, ''Eric and Ernie''. The Noël Coward Theatre, formerly known as the Albery Theatre, is a West End theatre in St. Martin's Lane in the City of Westminster, London. William David "Bill" Brohn (March 30, 1933 – May 11, 2017) was an American arranger and orchestrator, best known for his scores of musicals such as ''Miss Saigon'', ''Ragtime'' and ''Wicked''.
