	Hal Lubarsky Hal Lubarsky was an American professional poker player. He was the first blind poker player to ever cash in a World Series of Poker event. He died on March 19, 2023. Background Hal Lubarsky was 29 when he moved to Las Vegas with the dream of becoming a professional poker player. For over 15 years he routinely competed in the $150–300 H.O.R.S.E. games, where he played with many of the biggest names in poker. His poker playing days, however, came to an end in 2004 when he lost his vision to a hereditary dystrophy known as retinitis pigmentosa. 	2007 World Series Of Poker The 2007 World Series of Poker (WSOP) began on June 1st, 2007. The $10,000 ( US) no-limit Texas hold 'em Main Event began on July 6th and was completed on the morning of July 18th. All events were held at the Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada by Harrah's Entertainment, which has run the annual event since its purchase from the Binion family in 2004. For the first time players began each event with double the amount of chips as the buy-in. This means that players in the Main Event started with 20,000 chips. The blind structure has also been increased and some blind levels removed but slowed to allow for more play.
