Hakluyt & Company is a British strategic advisory firm. The company is headquartered in London and has subsidiary offices in New York, Dallas, San Francisco, Tokyo, Frankfurt, Singapore, Mumbai, Chicago and Sydney. Hakluyt avoids publicity, but is regarded as having a reputation for discretion and effectiveness among its client base. Hakluyt was founded by former officials of the British Secret Intelligence Service (MI6). The company has recruited several former British spies and journalists from ''The Financial Times''. Richard Hakluyt
Richard Hakluyt (; 1553 – 23 November 1616) was an English writer. He is known for promoting the English colonization of North America through his works, notably ''Divers Voyages Touching the Discoverie of America'' (1582) and ''The Principal Navigations, Voyages, Traffiques and Discoveries of the English Nation'' (1589–1600). Hakluyt was educated at Westminster School and Christ Church, Oxford. Between 1583 and 1588 he was chaplain and secretary to Sir Edward Stafford, English ambassador at the French court. An ordained priest, Hakluyt held important positions at Bristol Cathedral and Westminster Abbey and was personal chaplain to Robert Cecil, 1st Earl of Salisbury, principal Secretary of State to Elizabeth I and James I. He was the chief promoter of a petition to James I for letters patent to colonize Virginia, which were granted to the London Company and Plymouth Company (referred to collectively as the Virginia Company) in 1606. Richard Hakluyt (born by 1531 – died 1591), of the Middle Temple, London and Eyton in Leominster, Herefordshire, was an English barrister, a cousin of his more famous namesake. In 1558 Hakluyt was briefly a Member of the Parliament of England for Leominster. Hakluyt Island ( kl, Appasuak, da, Hakluyt Ø) is an island in Baffin Bay, in Avannaata municipality, off northwest Greenland. Geography Hakluyt Island lies off the western shore of Kiatak (Northumberland Island). It is part of a small group of coastal islands formed by Kiatak, Herbert Island and Hakluyt Island, Hakluyt being the smallest of the three.
