Hakkı Atun
Hakkı Atun (born 7 October 1935) is a former Prime Minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. He held this office between 1994 and 1996. He was born in Famagusta in 1935. In 1959, he graduated from Istanbul Technical University as an engineer architect. He studied urban planning at Manchester and Nottingham Universities. In 1961–1975, he held various public positions. In 1963, he became the Regional Director of Limassol-Paphos Planning, in 1967 became the Head of the Planning and Construction Department, and in 1975, the Undersecretary of Housing. In the General Elections of 1976, 1981, 1985, 1990, he was elected as a Nicosia MP from the National Unity Party and served as the Minister of Settlement and Rehabilitation, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of National Education Culture, Youth and Sports and the Secretary General of the National Unity Party. Prime Minister Of Northern Cyprus
The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus takes place in a framework of a semi-presidential representative democratic republic. The president is head of state and the prime minister head of government, and of a multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and the Assembly of the Republic. The judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislature. The prime minister must control a majority of parliament in order to govern. There have been ten prime ministers of Northern Cyprus since 1983. The premiership's precursor was a post known as the "president of the Turkish Cypriot Communal Chamber". The only man to occupy this post was Rauf Denktaş from 29 December 1969 to 5 July 1976. Republican Turkish Party
The Republican Turkish Party ( tr, Cumhuriyetçi Türk Partisi, CTP) is a social-democratic political party in Northern Cyprus. The party was founded in 1970 by Ahmet Mithat Berberoğlu, a lawyer, in opposition to the leadership of Fazıl Küçük and Rauf Denktaş. On 30 June 2008, the Republican Turkish Party became a consultative member of the Socialist International (voted in by all members except the Greek Cypriot Movement for Social Democracy). It became a full member of the organization in 2014. Policies and ideology The CTP is a social democratic political party, positioned on the centre-left on the political spectrum.
