Hakkari–Yüksekova Airport
Hakkari–Yüksekova Selahaddin Eyyubi Airport ( tr, Hakkari Yüksekova Selahaddin Eyyubi Havalimanı) is a public airport in Yüksekova, a town in Hakkari Province, Turkey. History The construction of the airport has started on 18 July 2010. It was opened to public/civil air traffic at 26 May 2015. During the inauguration ceremony attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime minister Ahmet Davutoğlu, it was announced that the airport is renamed Hakkari–Yüksekova Selahaddin Eyyubi Airport after Saladin (1137/1138–1193), a Muslim leader of Kurdish origin, who fought against Crusaders and captured Jerusalem. Hakkâri (, ku, Colemêrg), formerly known as Julamerk, is a city and district in the Hakkâri Province of Turkey. It is located about 40 kilometres from the Iraq–Turkey border, but the distance to the nearest Iraqi border crossing (Ibrahim Khalil Border Crossing) by road is about 270 km. The population of the city at the 2010 census was 57,844. This cities elevation and area spans 1,720 m tall and 2,237.19 km2 wide.
