''Hakea denticulata'', commonly known as stinking Roger is a shrub tree endemic southern Western Australia. One of the many species of Australian plant described by the botanist Robert Brown. A compact shrub high and wide with red flowers in the spring with an unpleasant odour. Description ''Hakea denticulata'' grows as a dense woody shrub to 1–2 metres (3–7 ft) high and wide, smaller branches are hairy. The flat leaves are smooth and grow alternately along the stem, are more or less oval-shaped and 1.5–4.6 cm (0.6-0.9 in) long and 1–2.5 cm (0.4–1 in) wide. The leaf margins have 2-10 teeth measuring 1–2 mm long on each side. The inflorescence consists of 1,3 or 5 creamy-yellow or orange-red flowers that appear in leaf axils in the upper branches on a stalk long with an offensive strong scent. Jerramungup is a Western Australian town located in the Great Southern agricultural region, southeast of Perth and west of the Gairdner River. The area was settled by Europeans prior to 1848, with the first homestead being built by John Hassell in 1848. ''Hakea'' ( ) is a genus of about 150 species of plants in the Family ''Proteaceae'', endemic to Australia. They are shrubs or small trees with leaves that are sometimes flat, otherwise circular in cross section in which case they are sometimes divided. Australian Biological Resources Study (ABRS) is a project undertaken by Parks Australia Division of Australia's Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts (DEWHA). Background ABRS was founded in 1973 from the recommendations of a 1972 Senate Select Committee report on Wildlife Conservation. Its purpose is to collate from the many libraries, museums and other collections the taxonomy of Australia's estimated 2 million species of flora and fauna, including aquatic species. These represent almost 20% of the earth's biodiversity, 80% of which are unique to Australia.
