Baku
Baku (, ; az, Bakı ) is the capital and largest city of Azerbaijan, as well as the largest city on the Caspian Sea and of the Caucasus region. 2011–12 Azerbaijan Premier League
The 2011–12 Azerbaijan Premier League (known as the Unibank Premyer Liqası for sponsorship reasons) was the twentieth season of the Premier League since its establishment in 1992. Neftchi Baku was the defending champions, having won their second Azerbaijani championship the previous season. A total of twelve teams participated in the league, the ten sides remaining of the 2010–11 season, one promoted club from the 2010–11 Azerbaijan First Division and a totally new club instead of defunct First Division champions FC Absheron. The format of the league was same as 2010–11 season. There is only one change in season's regulation as only champion of 2011–12 Azerbaijan First Division was directly promoted, while runners up of first division played play-off game with the team that finished 11th in Azerbaijan Premier League. Azerbaijan Premier League
The Azerbaijan Premier League ( az, Azərbaycan Premyer Liqası) is a professional league for men's association football clubs. At the top of the Azerbaijan football league system, it is the country's primary football competition. It is contested by 10 clubs. Seasons run from August to May, with teams playing 36 matches each (playing each team in the league four times, twice at home and twice away). The Premier League champion secures the right to play in UEFA Champions League first qualifying round. The runner up and the 3rd place winner secure right to play in UEFA Europa Conference League starting in second qualifying round. Since 1992, a total of 8 clubs have been crowned champions of the Azerbaijani football system. The Azerbaijan Premier League was first organized in 2007 and succeeded the Top Division ( az, Yüksək Liqa), which existed from 1992 to 2007. The Azerbaijan Cup 2009–10 was the 18th season of the annual cup competition in Azerbaijan. It started on 17 September 2009 with four games of the preliminary round and ended on 22 May 2009 with the Final held at Tofiq Bahramov Stadium in Baku. FK Karabakh were the defending champions. Twenty teams competed in this year's competition. The Azerbaijan Cup is a major association football competition in Azerbaijan. In its original form, it started in 1936, when Azerbaijan was a republic of the Soviet Union and it was not disputed by Azerbaijani teams in the Soviet league pyramid. Compared to cups in many other countries, Azerbaijan attracts considerably less public interest and even the cup final is rarely sold out. Consequently, the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan has experimented with the format in order to raise the profile of the cup. Araz-Naxçıvan PFK ( az, Araz-Naxçıvan Peşəkar Futbol Klubu) is an Azerbaijani football club based in Nakchivan. The club played in the Azerbaijan Premier League again in 2014–15 after being promoted at the end of the 2013–14 season. The club plays in the Azerbaijan First Division from 2022 to 2023 season. History The club was created in 1967 and as of 1968, it participated in Soviet First League. The club stopped its activity after collapse of Soviet Union. In 2001, the team was formed again and took part in the Azerbaijan Premier League. However year later, due to financial difficulties the team again ceased to exist.
