Hailu Dialect
The Hailu dialect (; Hailu Hakka Romanization System: hoi´ liug` kiong`), also known as the Hoiluk dialect or Hailu Hakka (), is a dialect of Hakka Chinese that originated in Shanwei, Guangdong. It is also the second most common dialect of Hakka spoken in Taiwan. Classification The first edition of the ''Language Atlas of China'' places the Hakka dialects spoken in Haifeng and LufengIncluding Luhe, which was carved out of Lufeng in 1988. into the Xin–Hui cluster () of the Yue–Tai subgroup () of Hakka. In the second edition, it is given its own subgroup known as the Hai–Lu subgroup () separate from the Yue–Tai subgroup. Chang Song-hing and Zhuang Chusheng propose that it should be grouped as the Hai–Lu cluster () of the Mei–Shao subgroup (). Distribution In China, the Hailu dialect is spoken in Shanwei, Guangdong, particularly in Haifeng, Lufeng, and Luhe. Zhudong
Zhudong Township is an urban township in central Hsinchu County, Taiwan. Part of Hsinchu Science Park is in Zhudong. Also located in Zhudong is the main campus of the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI). Zhudong is approximately 20 minutes drive from Hsinchu town center on one of two freeways, route 3 North, which passes nearby and route 68 East which proceeds directly through Zhudong. Name Literally, ''Zhudong'' means "bamboo east" but in this context, ''zhu'' is short for "Hsinchu". Thus, Zhudong lies east of Hsinchu (''cf.'' Zhubei which lies north 'bei''of Hsinchu.) Baoshan, Hsinchu
Baoshan Township () is a rural township in Hsinchu County, Taiwan. It is ostensibly a suburb of Hsinchu City to the north and west, and is also bounded by Zhudong City to the east, Beipu and Emei Towns to the south, and Miaoli County to the west. Name The name Baoshan means "Treasure Mountain" in Mandarin Chinese. History Baoshan was formerly known as "Caoshan", which was named after the ancestors of the Han nationality in the Qing Dynasty because of the overgrown hills and weeds in the area. Beipu
Beipu Township (; Hakka: ''Pet-phû-hiông'') is a rural township in Hsinchu County, Taiwan. Beipu is well known in Taiwan as a center of Hakka culture, especially for production of ''dongfang meiren'' tea and its special Hakkanese blends of tea and nuts called lei cha. History The town was the scene of the 1907 Hoppo Uprising against Japanese rule of Taiwan when insurgents of both Hakka and indigenous Saisiyat extraction attacked Japanese officials and their families. In retaliation, Japanese military and police killed more than 100 Hakka people, the majority of whom were young men from ''Neidaping'' (內大坪), a small village in the mountainous southern part of the township. Qionglin Township is a rural township in central Hsinchu County, Taiwan. Its population was estimated at 20,158 in January 2017.
