Pascack Valley Medical Center formerly known as Hackensack University Medical Center at Pascack Valley is a full-service boutique hospital located in Westwood, New Jersey, at the site of the former Pascack Valley Hospital. Owned 35% by Hackensack University Medical Center (HackensackUMC) and 65% by Ardent Health Services, HackensackUMC at Pascack Valley serves the Pascack Valley and Northern Valley communities in northern Bergen County, New Jersey, Bergen County. Englewood Health is an acute care 289-bed teaching hospital in Englewood, New Jersey. In 2021 it was given a grade A by the Leapfrog patient safety organization. History It was incorporated in 1888 as a "non-profit, non-sectarian voluntary health care facility devoted to the care, maintenance and cure of the sick, the injured and the infirm." It opened on June 14, 1890, with 12 beds on a tract of land on Engle Street. In 2006, much of the nursing staff went on strike after the union and hospital were unable to reach an agreement over a reduction in benefits and pensions. Temporary nurses were brought in. Touro University College Of Medicine
Touro University College of Medicine was a proposed medical school to be based out of Hackensack, New Jersey. Its hospital affiliate was to be Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC). The medical school disbanded in December 2009. Proposal and planning The school was established on April 16, 2007, with Paul M. Wallach, M.D. named as its founding dean. The first proposed location of the school was on the campus of the former Pascack Valley Hospital (PVH) in Westwood, New Jersey, which had closed after declaring bankruptcy in November 2007. HUMC had acquired the PVH property on February 27, 2008, in an auction for $45 million in a joint bid with Touro. For the school to have become accredited and begin to admit students, it needed to undergo a site visit by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME).
