Habiganj-1 is a constituency represented in the Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament) of Bangladesh since 2019 by Gazi Mohammad Shahnawaz of the Awami League. Dewan Farid Gazi ( bn, দেওয়ান ফরিদ গাজী; 1 March 1924– 19 November 2010) was a Bangladeshi politician born in Devpara, Nabiganj Upazila, Sylhet. 2018 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 30 December 2018 to elect 300 directly-elected members of the Jatiya Sangsad. The result was a landslide victory for the Awami League led by Sheikh Hasina. According to political scientist Ali Riaz, the elections were not free and fair. The BBC News reported that they were marred by violence and allegations of vote rigging. Opposition leader Kamal Hossain rejected the results, calling it "farcical" and demanding fresh elections to be held under a neutral government. Nabiganj ( bn, নবীগঞ্জ, Nobīgonj) is an Upazila of Habiganj District in the Division of Sylhet, Bangladesh. History After the Conquest of Gour in 1303, many disciples of Shah Jalal migrated and settled in present-day Nabiganj where they preached Islam to the local people.
