Haapsalu Horror and Fantasy Film Festival ( et, Haapsalu Õudus- ja Fantaasiafilmide Festival, abbreviated HÕFF) is an international film festival which takes place annually in Haapsalu, Estonia. HÕFF focuses on horror film, horror and fantasy films. HÕFF is organized by the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, the Haapsalu Culture Center, and the town of Haapsalu. The first HÕFF took place in 2005, after being created by Marek Reinaas. Since 2012, HÕFF is a member of Méliès International Festivals Federation (MIFF). Haapsalu
Haapsalu () is a seaside resort town located on the west coast of Estonia. It is the administrative centre of Lääne County, and on 1 January 2020 it had a population of 9,375. Description Haapsalu has been well known for centuries for its warm seawater, curative mud and peaceful atmosphere. Salt mud spas frequented by the Russian Romanov family still operate. Narrow streets with early 20th century wooden houses lead to the sea. Haapsalu has been called the "Venice of the Baltics", although this claim has been criticized as an exaggeration. Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival
Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, or PÖFF ( et, Pimedate Ööde Filmifestival), is an annual film festival held since 1997 in Tallinn, the capital city of Estonia. PÖFF is the only festival in Northern Europe or the Baltic region with a FIAPF (International Federation of Film Producers Association) accreditation for holding an International Competitive Feature Film Program, which places it alongside 14 other non-specialised competitive world festivals including Berlin, Cannes, Venice, Karlovy Vary, Warsaw, and San Sebastian. Marek Reinaas (born 21 March 1971) is an Estonian columnist, advertising executive, entrepreneur, and politician. In April 2023, he was elected to XV Riigikogu, representing the Estonia 200 (, E200) party. Reinaas has worked as a political columnist for the newspapers '' Postimees'', '' KesKus'', and '' Äripäev''. Méliès International Festivals Federation (MIFF), formerly European Fantastic Film Festivals Federation (EFFFF), established in 1987, is a network of 22 genre film festivals from 16 countries based Brussels, Belgium, and dedicated to promoting and supporting European cinema, particularly films in the fantasy, horror and science fiction genres. Simon Rumley (born 22 May 1968) is a British screenwriter, director and author. Mostly associated with the horror genre, he was described by '' Screen International'' as "one of the great British cinematic outsiders, a gifted director with the know-how to puncture the conventions". He has won several awards and worked with, among others, Roger Lloyd-Pack, Greta Scacchi, Noah Taylor and Peter Facinelli.
