Haakon Melhuus
Haakon Melhuus (born 2 August 1947) is a Norwegian meteorologist and weather presenter. He was born in Hamar, and grew up in Furnes, Skjåk, Melhus and Ørland. He finished his secondary education in Trondheim in 1967, and after one year of compulsory military service he enrolled at the University of Oslo. He graduated with the cand.real. degree in 1976, and after taking the pedagogical seminary in 1977 he worked briefly as a science teacher in Lørenskog. Melhuus was hired in the Norwegian Meteorological Institute in 1977. After several stations around the country he was hired in the weather forecast department at Blindern in 1986. Between 1988 and 2013 he was a prime time weather presenter for the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation. Blindern
Blindern is the main campus of the University of Oslo, located in Nordre Aker in Oslo, Norway. Weather is the state of the atmosphere, describing for example the degree to which it is hot or cold, wet or dry, calm or stormy, clear or cloudy. On Earth, most weather phenomena occur in the lowest layer of the planet's atmosphere, the troposphere, just below the stratosphere. A weather presenter (also known colloquially in North America as a weatherman or weather broadcaster) is a person who presents the weather forecast daily on radio, television or internet news broadcasts. Using diverse tools, such as projected weather maps, they inform the viewers of the current and future weather conditions, explain the reasons underlying this evolution, and relay to the public any weather hazards and warnings issued for their region, country or larger areas. There are no basic qualifications to become a weather presenter; depending on the country and the media, it can range from an introduction to meteorology for a television host to a diploma in meteorology from a recognized university. The Norwegian Meteorological Institute ( no, Meteorologisk institutt), also known internationally as MET Norway, is Norway's national meteorological institute. It provides weather forecasts for civilian and military uses and conducts research in meteorology, oceanography and climatology.
