Avanti Communications is a UK based satellite operator, selling wholesale satellite broadband and satellite connectivity services to Internet Service Providers, Mobile Network Operators, Enterprises, Governments and other satellite operators. The Avanti HYLAS fleet of satellites provides coverage of the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The company was listed on London's Alternative Investment Market (AIM) as LSE: AVN and employs approximately 200 staff across the UK, Europe, US, the Middle East and Africa. Its headquarters are in London (UK) with offices in Goonhilly (UK), Limassol (Cyprus), Istanbul (Turkey) Nairobi (Kenya), Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), Johannesburg (South Africa) and Lagos (Nigeria). David Williams (businessman, Born 1969)
David John Williams (born May 1969 in Wales) is the founder of quantum encryption company Arqit Limited. He graduated with a BA in Economics and Politics from the University of Leeds. Williams was co-founder of Avanti Communications Group plc, the United Kingdom's first start-up operator, listed on the London Stock Exchange. Avanti was the first company to operate a High Throughput Satellite in EMEA and notably won the contract to build the backhaul system for the British Government's homeland security "Emergency Services Network". The company delisted from the London Stock Exchange in 2019 with a share price of 0.25p. In November 2014, the shares were trading at 320p a share. High-throughput Satellite
High-throughput satellite (HTS) is a communications satellite that provides more throughput than a classic FSS satellite (at least twice, though usually by a factor of 20 or more) for the same amount of allocated orbital spectrum, thus significantly reducing cost-per-bit. ViaSat-1 and EchoStar XVII (also known as Jupiter-1) do provide more than 100 Gbit/s of capacity, which is more than 100 times the capacity offered by a conventional FSS satellite. HYLAS-1
HYLAS (or HYLAS-1) is a British satellite in geostationary orbit. HYLAS, which is an acronym for ''Highly Adaptable Satellite'', is a communications satellite and was launched by the European Ariane 5 launch vehicle from the Guyana Space Centre at Kourou in French Guiana. It is located at the orbital location of 33.5 degrees west and will provide new and innovative services including High Definition Television (HDTV) and interactive satellite delivered broadband services. The satellite will help address the issue of poor broadband coverage in many parts of Europe which have less developed ground infrastructure. HYLAS-4
HYLAS-4 is a telecommunications satellite owned and operated by Avanti Communications and manufactured by Orbital ATK (now Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems) that was launched by an Ariane 5 rocket on 5 April 2018. Mission The satellite is built to provide high speed data transmission services to Africa, Latin America and Europe. It is based on Orbital ATK's Star-3 Bus, delivering 64 28 GHz fixed beams covering Africa and parts of Europe. There are also four independent steerable beams that can serve Africa, South America and Europe. The European Data Relay System (EDRS) system is a European constellation of GEO satellites that relay information and data between satellites, spacecraft, UAVs, and ground stations. The first components (a payload and dedicated GEO satellite) were launched in 2016 and 2019.
