HRL (software)
HR is a computer program that automatically forms mathematical theories by searching for sequences of numbers. It was written by Simon Colton, and derives its name from initials of the mathematicians Godfrey Harold Hardy and Srinivasa Aiyangar Ramanujan. HRL HR forms the basis for the artificial intelligence program HRL (the "L" in honour of Imre Lakatos), developed by Alison Pease, Simon Colton, Alan Smaill and John Lee. HRL generates software "student" agents, which are given information with which they attempt to make inferences. It evaluates how "interesting" the inferences are and sends those that are sufficiently interesting to a "teacher" agent. The teacher arranges group discussion amongst the students and may request further modification of conjectures. HRL Laboratories (formerly Hughes Research Laboratories) is a research center in Malibu, California, established in 1960. Formerly the research arm of Hughes Aircraft, HRL is currently owned by General Motors Corporation and Boeing. The research facility is housed in two large, white multi-story buildings overlooking the Pacific Ocean. History In the 1940s, Howard Hughes created a R&D facility in Culver City, California. In 1959 construction started on the headquarters located on a Malibu hilltop overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The modernist white and glass building was designed by Los Angeles architect Ernest Lee. The headquarters was built by the Del E. Webb Construction Company, who built several facilities for Hughes. The laboratory opened in 1960. Harlech Railway Station
Harlech railway station is located at a level crossing on the A496 in the centre of the town of Harlech in Gwynedd, North Wales. The waiting shelters were installed to cater for the high numbers of schoolchildren commuting to and from the adjacent secondary school, Ysgol Ardudwy. The station is on the Cambrian Coast Railway with passenger services to Porthmadog, Pwllheli, Barmouth, Machynlleth, Shrewsbury and Birmingham International. Until the 1960s there was a summer service between London Paddington and Pwllheli, via Birmingham Snow Hill, Shrewsbury and Machynlleth. The Hilandar Research Library (HRL), located in the Thompson Library on the campus of Ohio State University, has the largest collection of medieval Slavic manuscripts on microform in the world. Hilandar Research Library Collection The collection is composed of microform material from more than 100 different private, museum, and library collections in dozens of countries. It includes many Cyrillic manuscripts on microform, the majority from various monasteries on Mount Athos, Greece, including the entire Slavic collection of the Hilandar Monastery. The library also contains a 100,000 volume reference collection. The entire collection can be viewed in the Jack and Jan Creighton Special Collections Reading Room (Thompson Library).
