HOSS Records
HOSS Records is an experimental independent record label. HOSS was formed in 2004 and is currently based out of Brooklyn, New York, and Atlanta, Georgia. The label was active in the Baltimore, Maryland, music scene between 2007 and 2010 before entering "a year and a half spent lying in semi-limbo". As of 2011, the label is once again active. Food For Animals
Food for Animals were an American hip hop group formed in 2001 near Washington, D.C. The group featured Vulture Voltaire (Andrew Field-Pickering), Ricky Rabbit (Nick Rivetti), Dr. Dan (Daniel Helmer), and HY (Sterling Warren). Their music was generally categorized as underground hip hop with a strong tendency towards noise music. According to ''Pitchfork'', their latest albums feature a sound best appreciated by "those with a high tolerance for serial grime and a taste for the sharper, harder edge of hip-hop". History Field Pickering, a Washington, D.C. DJ, and Ricky Rabbit formed the band and quickly booked gigs along the East Coast, shows which occasionally caused comparisons with Public Enemy and found praise from critics. Lyonnais (band)
Lyonnais is an experimental rock band based out of Atlanta, Georgia. The band consists of Farbod Kokabi, Farzad Moghaddam, Lee Tesche, and TJ Blake. Tesche is a founding member of the band Algiers, while Kokabi and Moghaddam run the Geographic North record label. Blake is a member of Lotus Plaza's touring band, the solo project of Deerhunter guitarist Lockett Pundt. Background Lyonnais formed in 2008 after Kokabi and Moghaddam watched a Rhys Chatham performance together and set about trying to fill a void in the experimental Atlanta music scene". Tesche and Blake were later added to the line-up, fleshing the band out. Dustin Wong
Dustin Wong is an American guitarist formerly active in the art-rock band Ponytail and a former member of the experimental guitar duo, Ecstatic Sunshine (along with Matthew Papich). Biography Wong's style is characterized by influences of surf rock and John Fahey. Wong was born in Hawaii and grew up in Japan, though he is half Chinese. Together with Matt Papich he formed the duo Ecstatic Sunshine and released two albums. Wong left Ecstatic Sunshine in 2007 to fully focus on Ponytail and solo projects. Wong's first solo record in 2009 on Wildfire Wildfire was entitled ''Seasons''. Wong published a second solo-album ''Infinite Love'' in October 2010. A 40-minute piece cut into 15 tracks and then re-done on a 2nd CD. This instrumental release appeared on Thrill Jockey. After releasing the record he went on tour in Europe. Dead Oceans is an American independent record label formed in 2007 and based in Bloomington, Indiana, with offices in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Austin, London, Paris, Amsterdam, and Berlin. Dead Oceans is part of Secretly Group, which also includes labels Secretly Canadian and Jagjaguwar and a music publisher, Secretly Publishing, that publishes artists, writers, filmmakers, producers, and comedians. These Are Powers was an American experimental music group from Brooklyn, New York and Chicago, Illinois, United States. The band mixes polyrhythm with Sampler (musical instrument), samples and other electronic sounds and noise rock. Clockcleaner
Clockcleaner was a punk band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,USA, named after a particular "hot bag" of heroin that was distributed in Philadelphia in the 1980s. The band consists of John Sharkey III on vocals/guitar, Karen Horner on 6-string bass guitar, and Richie Charles Jr on drums. The trio has drawn comparisons to The Birthday Party, Big Black, Bauhaus, Flipper and even harsh noise band Whitehouse. Their influences have been cited as including Crucifucks, Modern English, Cro-Mags, GG Allin, Neil Young and the first Skrewdriver LP. Formed in summer 2003, Clockcleaner released an LP called ''The Hassler'' on the now defunct Philadelphia label Manic Ride Records. The album echoed early 1990s noise rock, with high pitch guitar sonics and a thumping bass sound. After touring for the EP, original bass guitarist Warren Slegel was fired from the band, and was replaced in the studio by John Sharkey. Deerhunter
Deerhunter is an American indie rock band from Atlanta, Georgia, formed in 2001. The band currently consists of Bradford Cox (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Moses Archuleta (drums, electronics, sound treatments), Lotus Plaza, Lockett Pundt (guitar, vocals, keyboards), Josh McKay (musician), Josh McKay (bass) and Javier Morales (keyboards, synthesizers, alto saxophone). Founded by Cox and Archuleta, Deerhunter's first stable line-up included guitarist Colin Mee and bass guitarist Justin Bosworth. After recording a Deerhunter/Alphabets Split, split EP with Alphabets, Bosworth died on March 29, 2004, of head injuries suffered during a skateboarding accident. He was 23 years old. Telepathe (pronounced ''telepathy'' and meant with some literal meaning) are an electronic pop duo from Brooklyn consisting of core members Busy Gangnes and Melissa Livaudais. Bradford Cox
Bradford James Cox (born May 15, 1982) is an American singer-songwriter and musician, best known as the lead singer and guitarist of the indie rock band Deerhunter. He also pursues a solo career under the moniker Atlas Sound. Cox formed Deerhunter with drummer Moses Archuleta in 2001. The band has released 7 studio albums along with several singles and EPs. Atlas Sound is a name Cox has used since he was ten to refer to his own music, but his first full-length production under the name was '' Let the Blind Lead Those Who Can See but Cannot Feel'' (2008). Cox's method of creating music is stream of consciousness, and he does not write lyrics in advance. He made his film acting debut in 2013's ''Dallas Buyers Club''.
