HMS Zealand
There have been three ships that have served in the Royal Navy named HMS ''Zealand''. Each has been a vessel captured from the Royal Netherlands Navy. * , a fourth-rate ship of the line originally named ''Wapen Van Zealand'' with 42 guns, captured from the Dutch in 1665 and sold in 1667. * , a 8-gun flyboat captured from the Dutch in 1667 and sold in 1668. * , a third-rate ship of the line seized from the Dutch in 1796 and transferred to Plymouth for harbour service. Royal Navy
The Royal Navy (RN) is the United Kingdom's naval warfare force. Although warships were used by English and Scottish kings from the early medieval period, the first major maritime engagements were fought in the Hundred Years' War against France. The modern Royal Navy traces its origins to the early 16th century; the oldest of the UK's armed services, it is consequently known as the Senior Service.
