HK Poprad
HK Poprad is a professional ice hockey team in the Slovak Extraliga, the top ice hockey league in Slovakia. It plays its games in Poprad, Slovakia. The squad's greatest success was 2nd place in the Slovak Extraliga in 2006, 2011 and 2021. The club is nicknamed ''Kamzíci'', which means "Chamois" in English. History After the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1993, Poprad started playing in the new independent Slovak Championship which was named the Slovak Extraliga. In the 1996–97 season Poprad was eliminated in the semifinals by HC Košice. In the next season 1997–98, they played semifinals again against HC Košice and lost 0–3. However, these two seasons were successful because the team won bronze medals. In the 2005–06 season the team reached the most remarkable success, but lost 3–4 in the final series against MsHK Žilina. Poprad
Poprad (; hu, Poprád; german: Deutschendorf) is a city in northern Slovakia at the foot of the High Tatra Mountains, famous for its picturesque historic centre and as a holiday resort. It is the biggest town of the Spiš region and the tenth largest city in Slovakia, with a population of approximately 50,000. The Czechoslovak First Ice Hockey League was the elite ice hockey league in Czechoslovakia from 1936 until 1993, when the country split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The 2021–22 Slovak Extraliga season was the 29th season of the Slovak Extraliga, the highest ice hockey league in Slovakia. Team changes The newly established hockey club HC 21 Prešov replaced HC 07 Detva in Tipos extraliga from this season as Prešov should be made up of Detva players. 2019–20 Slovak Extraliga Season
The 2019–20 Slovak Extraliga season was the 27th season of the Slovak Extraliga, the highest ice hockey league in Slovakia. Since the 2018–19 season, the league also includes two teams from Hungary. The season was ended prematurely due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Slovakia, the season was curtailed on 11 March. Team changes HC Slovan Bratislava returns to the league in this season since it was not able to continue in the KHL due to financial problems. The club has won eight Slovak championships (most recently in 2012) and one Czechoslovak championship (1979), making it the second most successful ice hockey club in Slovak history after their biggest rival HC Košice. Hockey Club '05 Banská Bystrica is a professional Slovak ice hockey club based in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia. They won 3 times Slovakian hockey league and 4 times Slovak 1. Hokejový Klub Dukla Trenčín is a professional Slovak ice hockey club based in Trenčín, playing in the Slovak Extraliga. The club has won three Slovak league championships (1994, 1997, 2004) and one Czechoslovak league championship (1992). The team is nicknamed ''Vojaci'', meaning "Soldiers" in English.
