HK Kranjska Gora
Hokejski klub Kranjska Gora ( en, Kranjska Gora Hockey Club), commonly referred to as HK Kranjska Gora or simply Kranjska Gora, was an ice hockey team from Kranjska Gora, Slovenia. The club played in both the Yugoslav Ice Hockey League and the Slovenian Hockey League. History The club was founded in 1961 and first participated in the Yugoslav Ice Hockey League the following year. The team participated in the Yugoslav League until 1988, when financial issues caused the team to drop out of the league. HK Kranjska Gora played in the Slovenian Ice Hockey League from 1996–97 until it folded after the 2005–06 season. Kranjska Gora
Kranjska Gora (; german: Kronau) is a town in northwestern Slovenia, on the Sava Dolinka River in the Upper Carniola region, close to the Austrian and Italian borders. It is the seat of the Municipality of Kranjska Gora. Name Kranjska Gora was first mentioned in written sources in 1326 as ''Chrainow'' (and as ''Chrainau'' and ''Chrainaw'' in 1363, as ''Cranaw'' and ''Chranaw'' in 1390, and as ''Kraynaw'' in 1456–61, among other names). The Slovene name ''Kranjska Gora'' is a reworking of the German name, influenced by German ''Krainberg'' 'Karawanks'. Podmežakla Hall
Podmežakla Hall (''Dvorana Podmežakla'') is an indoor sporting arena located in Jesenice, Slovenia. It is the home of the HDD Jesenice ice hockey team. It is also the site of the Triglav Trophy, an annual international figure skating competition held each spring. The name ''Podmežakla'' (literally 'below Mežakla') is derived from its location on the southwest bank of the Sava Dolinka, directly below the Mežakla Plateau. History The hall was opened in 1978 and was expanded between 2009 and 2011. In March 2011, the hall was closed after inspectors found that the ice hockey club was allowed to host spectators in the newly built east stand without official state permission. The state inspectors also found that the Municipality of Jesenice did not obtain a building permit during the last major renovation in 1997. Yugoslav Ice Hockey League
The Yugoslav Ice Hockey League was the top ice hockey league in the old Yugoslavia. In 1939, Yugoslavia became a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation. That year also, the country held its first national championship, with Ilirija emerging as champion. For many years, teams from Slovenia dominated even if Serbian and Croatian teams were also successful for a while during the late-1980s and early-1990s, right before the breakup of Yugoslavia. The league folded in 1991, when the country split. Since then, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina have had their own national leagues. History The Slovenian Hockey League was firstly contested in the 1991–92 season, with the championship being held at the end as the play-offs. Over time, some Slovenian teams entered the Austrian Hockey League, and joined only for the play-offs. In the 2007–08 season there was an issue, as the Croatian team Medveščak qualified for the play-offs. As the Slovenian Champion could only be a team from Slovenia, they did not take part in the play-offs. The Slohokej League was established and played its first season in 2009–10, but was cancelled after the 2011–12 season.
