HD 45350
HD 45350 is a solar analog star with an exoplanetary companion in the northern constellation of Auriga (constellation), Auriga. It has an apparent visual magnitude of 7.89, which means it is an 8th magnitude star that is too dim to be readily visible to the naked eye. The system is located at a distance of 153 light-years from the Sun based on stellar parallax, parallax measurements, but is drifting closer with a radial velocity of −21 km/s. This is an ordinary G-type main-sequence star with a stellar classification of G5 V, which indicates it is generating energy through stellar core, core hydrogen fusion. Age estimates are in the range of 6–7 billion years and it has an absolute magnitude of 4.45, placing it about 0.8 magnitudes above the main sequence. Stellar rotation is the angular motion of a star about its axis. The rate of rotation can be measured from the spectrum of the star, or by timing the movements of active features on the surface. In astronomy, Durchmusterung or Bonner Durchmusterung (BD) is an astrometric star catalogue of the whole sky, compiled by the Bonn Observatory in Germany from 1859 to 1903. The name comes from ('run-through examination'), a German word used for a systematic survey of objects or data. The term has sometimes been used for other astronomical surveys, including not only stars, but also the search for other celestial objects. Special tasks include celestial scanning in electromagnetic wavelengths shorter or longer than visible light waves. A G-type main-sequence star (Spectral type: G-V), also often, and imprecisely called a yellow dwarf, or G star, is a main-sequence star (luminosity class V) of spectral type G. Such a star has about 0.9 to 1.1 solar masses and an effective temperature between about 5,300 and 6,000 K. Like other main-sequence stars, a G-type main-sequence star is converting the element hydrogen to helium in its core by means of nuclear fusion, but can also fuse helium when hydrogen runs out. The Sun, the star in the center of the Solar System to which the Earth is gravitationally bound, is an example of a G-type main-sequence star (G2V type). SIMBAD (the Set of Identifications, Measurements and Bibliography for Astronomical Data) is an astronomical database of objects beyond the Solar System. It is maintained by the Centre de données astronomiques de Strasbourg (CDS), France. SIMBAD was created by merging the Catalog of Stellar Identifications (CSI) and the Bibliographic Star Index as they existed at the Meudon Computer Centre until 1979, and then expanded by additional source data from other catalogues and the academic literature. HD 45350 b is an extrasolar planet located approximately 160 light-years away in the constellation of Auriga. It has a minimum mass about 1.79 times that of Jupiter. The mean distance of the planet from the star is more than the distance between Mars and the Sun, but the eccentricity of the orbit is nothing short of remarkable; at periastron the planet is as close to the star as Mercury is from the Sun, but at apastron it is 8 times further. No doubt seasons on the planet would be extreme. The planet HD 45350 b is named Peitruss. The name was selected in the NameExoWorlds campaign by Luxembourg, during the 100th anniversary of the IAU. Peitruss is derived from the name of the Luxembourg river Pétrusse. The year 2019-2020 class of 3B from the Luxembourgish Echternach high school won the contest to name both the star and its planet.
