Hajdu–Cheney Syndrome
Hajdu–Cheney syndrome, also called acroosteolysis with osteoporosis and changes in skull and mandible, arthrodentoosteodysplasia and Cheney syndrome, is an extremely rare autosomal dominant congenital disorder of the connective tissue characterized by severe and excessive bone resorption leading to osteoporosis and a wide range of other possible symptoms. Mutations in the ''NOTCH2'' gene, identified in 2011, cause HCS. HCS is so rare that only about 50 cases have been reported worldwide since the discovery of the syndrome in 1948 Signs and symptoms Hajdu–Cheney syndrome causes many issues with an individual's connective tissues. Some general characteristics of an individual with Hajdu–Cheney syndrome include bone flexibility and deformities, short stature, delayed acquisition of speech and motor skills, dolichocephalic skull, Wormian bone, small maxilla, hypoplastic frontal sinuses, basilar impression, joint laxity, bulbous finger tips and severe osteoporosis. Wormian bone oc ...

Halo Championship Series
''Halo'' is a military science fiction media franchise, originally developed by Bungie and currently managed and developed by 343 Industries, part of Microsoft's Xbox Game Studios. The series launched in 2001 with the first-person shooter video game ''Halo: Combat Evolved'' and its tie-in novel, ''Halo: The Fall of Reach, The Fall of Reach''. The latest main game, ''Halo Infinite'', was released in 2021. ''Combat Evolved'' started life as a real-time strategy game, before morphing into a first-person shooter and releasing as an exclusive on Microsoft's new Xbox (console), Xbox video game console after Bungie was acquired by the company. Bungie regained its independence in 2007, releasing additional ''Halo'' games through 2010. Microsoft established 343 Industries to direct the franchise going forward, and has produced games itself and in partnership with other studios. ''Combat Evolved'' was a critical and commercial success, serving as the Xbox's "killer app" and cementing Mic ...

Halifax Choral Society
Halifax Choral Society is a choir based in the town of Halifax in the English county of West Yorkshire. It is notable for being the oldest amateur choral society in Britain (and possibly in the world) with an unbroken record of performance. History The idea for the Halifax Choral Society (initially called Halifax Quarterly Choral Society) emerged from a discussion in late 1817 at a dinner party hosted at his home, Crow Trees in Lightcliffe, Halifax, for his musical friends by William Priestley, an eminent local musician, antiquary and literary gentleman. Late in 1817, at a dinner party Priestley discussed the possibility of a permanent choir rather than the gatherings of singers that had presented concerts in the district for many years previously. The choir has played an important role in the social and musical life of Halifax throughout its life, especially during the many civic and national celebrations which typified Imperial Britain in the nineteenth century. In the twen ...

Hub-center Steering
Hub-center steering (HCS) is one of several different types of front-end suspension/steering mechanisms used in motorcycles and cargo bicycles. Hub-center steering is characterized by the steering pivot points being inside the hub of the wheel, rather than above the wheel in the headstock as in the traditional layout. Most hub-center arrangements employ a swingarm that extends from the bottom of the engine/frame to the center of the front wheel. The advantages of using a hub-center steering system instead of a more conventional motorcycle fork are that hub-center steering separates the steering, braking, and suspension functions. With a fork the braking forces are put through the suspension, a situation that leads to the suspension being compressed, using up a large amount of suspension travel which makes dealing with bumps and other road irregularities extremely difficult. As the forks dive, the steering geometry of the bike also changes, making the bike more nervous, and inv ...

Hierarchical Cell Structure (telecommunications)
For telephone services to mobile phones, Hierarchical cell structure ("HCS") used in mobile telecommunication means the splitting of cells Cell most often refers to: * Cell (biology), the functional basic unit of life Cell may also refer to: Locations * Monastic cell, a small room, hut, or cave in which a religious recluse lives, alternatively the small precursor of a monastery w .... This type of cell structure allows the network to effectively use the geographical area and serve an increasing population. The large cell (called a "macro cell") is rearranged to include small cells in it called micro and pico cells. The cricket stadium/exhibition ground can be a micro cell and a multi storied building can be a pico cell within the large cell. The micro/pico cell is allocated the radio spectrum to serve the increased population. The User Equipments (UEs) going out of the pico/micro cells are allowed to reselect the larger cell. The HCS cells are given priorities from 0-7 wher ...

Header Check Sequence
A header check sequence (HCS) is an error checking feature for various header data structures, such as in the Media Access Control (MAC) header of Ethernet. It may consist of a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) of the frame, obtained as the remainder of the division (modulo 2) by the generator polynomial multiplied by the content of the header excluding the HCS field. The HCS can be one octet long, as in WiMAX, or a 16-bit value for cable modem A cable modem is a type of network bridge that provides bi-directional data communication via radio frequency channels on a hybrid fibre-coaxial (HFC), radio frequency over glass (RFoG) and coaxial cable infrastructure. Hard-clad Silica Optical Fiber
Hard-clad silica (HCS) or polymer-clad fiber (PCF) is an optical fiber with a core of silica glass (diameter: 200 µm) and an optical cladding made of special plastic (diameter: 230 µm). In contrast to all-silica fiber, the core and cladding can be separated from each other. Due to their medium bandwidths and transmission rates of less than 100 Mbit/s, HCS fibers are suitable for distances of up to 2 km, e.g. in local networks in buildings and industry. Generally, the following applies: The higher the attenuation, the shorter the distance. For comparison, plastic optical fibers (POF) have low bandwidths and transmission rates (typically 100 Mbit/s). They also have a high attenuation and therefore, the maximum distance is around 100 meters. Glass fibers on the other hand have very high bandwidths and transmission rates of up to GBit/s. The attenuation in glass fibres is much lower, glass fibers can cover distances of more than 10 km. Regarding bandwidth ...

Hummocky Cross-stratification
Hummocky cross-stratification is a type of sedimentary structure found in sandstones. It is a form of cross-bedding usually formed by the action of large storms, such as hurricanes. It takes the form of a series of "smile"-like shapes, crosscutting each other. It is only formed at a depth of water below fair-weather wave base and above storm-weather wave base. They are not related to " hummocks" except in shape. History The name was introduced by Harms et al. in 1975. Before this time, these structures were recognized under many different names. When hummocky cross-stratification was founded, it was originally given the name “truncated wave-ripple laminae,” by Campbell (1966, 1971).Surlyk, F., and N. Noenygaard. "Hummocky Cross-stratification from the Lower Jurassic Hasle Formation of Bornholm, Denmark." '' Sedimentary Geology'' 46.3-4 (1986): 259-73. Print. The main features were listed by Bourgeois (1980), Harms et al. (1982), and Walker (1983), in order to identi ...

Hierarchical Constraint Satisfaction
In artificial intelligence and operations research Operations research ( en-GB, operational research) (U.S. Air Force Specialty Code: Operations Analysis), often shortened to the initialism OR, is a discipline that deals with the development and application of analytical methods to improve deci ..., hierarchical constraint satisfaction (HCS) is a method of handling constraint satisfaction problems where the variables have large domains by exploiting their internal structure. For many real-world problems the domain elements cluster together into sets with common properties and relations. This structure can be represented as a hierarchy and is partially ordered on the subset of a relation. The expectation is that the domains are structured so that the elements of a set frequently share consistency properties permitting them to be retained or eliminated as a unit. Thus, if some elements of a set satisfy a constraint, but not all, the subsets of the set are considered. In this w ...

Heliospheric Current Sheet
The heliospheric current sheet, or interplanetary current sheet, is a surface separating regions of the heliosphere where the interplanetary magnetic field points toward and away from the Sun. A small electrical current with a current density of about 10−10 A/m2 flows within this surface, forming a current sheet confined to this surface.Israelevich, P. L., ''et al.'',MHD simulation of the three-dimensional structure of the heliospheric current sheet (2001) ''Astronomy and Astrophysics'', v.376, p.288–291 The shape of the current sheet results from the influence of the Sun's rotating magnetic field on the plasma in the interplanetary medium. The thickness of the current sheet is about near the orbit of the Earth. Characteristics Ballerina's skirt shape As the Sun rotates, its magnetic field twists into an Archimedean spiral, as it extends through the Solar System. This phenomenon is often called the Parker spiral, after Eugene Parker's workParker, E. N.,Dynamics of the ...

HCS Clustering Algorithm
Th HCS (Highly Connected Subgraphs) clustering algorithm(also known as the HCS algorithm, and other names such as Highly Connected Clusters/Components/Kernels) is an algorithm based on graph connectivity for cluster analysis. It works by representing the similarity data in a similarity graph, and then finding all the highly connected subgraphs. It does not make any prior assumptions on the number of the clusters. This algorithm was published by Erez Hartuv and Ron Shamir in 2000. The HCS algorithm gives a clustering solution, which is inherently meaningful in the application domain, since each solution cluster must have diameter 2 while a union of two solution clusters will have diameter 3. Similarity modeling and preprocessing The goal of cluster analysis is to group elements into disjoint subsets, or clusters, based on similarity between elements, so that elements in the same cluster are highly similar to each other (homogeneity), while elements from different clusters have ...
